hill-53514 Such a simple premise that builds, in such a wonderful, wandering path, to a perfect ending. Don't miss the Easter egg.
RResende This is not as much about sex as it is about actor's direction. I came to it looking for films centered on sex, so i partially missed my own point by choosing this one. What i found interesting here was how Breillat portrays the making of a film centered on the urges and stresses of the director, specifically in how she directs actors, and the conflicts inherent to that. The trick is that, though we see a film which is about two characters who are about sex, the core of the film is how the director in that film sees and frames the thing. In the making of that film, she deals with the actor's repulsion towards each other which are, in a certain level, similar to those of their characters in the film within. So we are to the backstage of the film within as the characters in that backstage are to the film within. The actors doubts and repulsion are childish and unprofessional, of someone insecure, as much as the virgin character in the film within is.I appreciated this, but does this engage? Does this head somewhere? Not me. I felt like some emotional piece was missing here, or misplaced. Maybe, and ironically, it was a matter of bad not engaging acting by the actors of the film within. Or maybe it was the lack of a second layer over Parillaud's character, that would make us get in touch with her personal concerns, besides her concerns as a film director. Well, i watch few films directed by women, and maybe i didn't connect with this one out of inexperience understanding women's visual mind. Maybe. My opinion: 2/5, it's possible i come back to this in another occasion, maybe i'm misjudging it right now.http://www.7eyes.wordpress.com
dr_wolfi_d 1 hour and 40 minutes of talking--boring talking, and more talking and then some. It is hard for me to grasp how an actress like Anne Parillaud, who shone superbly in Femme Fatale, would sign up for such a piece of crap! Unbelievable. If you need a nightcap, this movie might help, although I would prefer some nice classical music. unfortunately, i just found out that i have to write 10 lines for my comment to appear--that's almost as unbelievable! so, short and succinct one or two sentence commentaries expressing one's core take on a movie is not enough. geez, people. i made my point and don't to waste your time with more, unnecessary words--as this movie does. Aaron Smith This film was very interesting to me, virtually a film within a film, which is about a very whimsical director who cleverly persuades an actress and and actor (who happen to dislike each other) in producing sexual chemistry on film. The director is faced with a fusillade of obstacles as she tries to get the two individuals to perform beautifully on film. Sex is Comedy is much more than a comedy, packed with uncomfortable quirky moments the movie also addresses the psychological and innate instinctual behavior of men and women in regards to the sometimes controversial act of sex. I loved this film, the character Jeanne played by the beautiful Anne Parillaud performs wonderfully on screen as you share in her struggle to produce a motion picture work of art.
