Forumrxes Yo, there's no way for me to review this film without saying, take your *insert ethnicity + "ass" here* to see this film, like now. You have to see it in order to know what you're really messing with.
ChanFamous I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
Raymond Sierra The film may be flawed, but its message is not.
mwcrunner I love this movie. It tells the story of Rudolph brilliantly. It also teaches kids that there's a little something special in them. When Rudolph is born, he is accepted by his parents and then when everyone in Christmas town learn how special he is cause of his red glowing nose, he accepted for that and saves Christmas from a wicked ice queen. This film also has a beautiful love story and it's as cute as when Rudolph got Clarice in the original Christmas special. In this movie Rudolph's girlfriend is named Zoey and it is very beautiful that she really cares dearly for Rudolph for when he's down for being made fun of for his nose. When Rudolph runs away from the Reindeer games cause of being disqualified for using his red nose in them, he gets depressed until he meets a couple new friends. A sly fox named Slyley, voiced by Richard Simmons and a polar bear named Leonard voiced by Bob Newhart. Desperate to find Rudolph, Zoey gets into trouble by the evil ice queen Stormella voiced by Whoopi Goldberg. Then Rudolph comes to the rescue with the help of his nose and finds Zoey in an icy bar prison. Then both of them get trapped until Slyley comes and frees them and then Stormella tries to freeze them all, but Rudolph stops her with his nose and that makes her almost fall of a cliff and then Rudolph, Zoey, Slyley, Leonard, the penguin and the wolves rescue her. Then after that Rudolph gets a Christmas wish for doing his good deed and makes Stormella turn nice. That's good anyway cause that's how it was with the Abominable Snow Monster and he used to terrify me as a kid. After that the storm which Stormella created couldn't be stopped, so Santa asks Rudolph to guide his sleigh and that's what Rudolph did. Santa is a much nicer guy in this then he is in the original cause no offense but he kind of acts like a jerk in the original special. Also Santa is voiced by John Goodman in this and he makes a really good Santa. At the very end Rudolph is loved by all in Christmas town and he went down in history. I also believe that Rudolph marries Zoey and they both have a fawn and called him Rudolph Jr. I made a fanart of that on Deviantart by the way. This movie also has a beautiful soundtrack including a beautiful duet by Jennifer Warnes and Bill Medley the same duo who sang the song The Time of My Life as heard in the 1987 film Dirty Dancing. All in all this is a beautiful movie for every Christmas and best for the whole family.
wildanimals I absolutely adored this movie when I was younger, and I hate it when people compare it to 'superior' '64 version with puppets. What's so wrong with a fresh new remake anyway. Did the world suddenly stop back in 1964?The story, like all Goodtimes films, is short, sweet and simple, and should please most children, although some little 'uns might find a few scenes scary. The animation is very fluent for a Goodtimes film, and there are some wonderful sequences with the Northern Lights and snowstorms. The songs are fun and catchy, and they are never there just for the sake of having a song. The songs help emphasise on what Rudolph or any other character is feeling right now.I loved this movie so much when I was a kid, I wouldn't just watch it at Christmas. It was an enjoyable romp at any time of the year (look, I'm reviewing this in June!)There's no bad language, no extreme violence, but just a sweet simple story with a strong moral that kids will love. And some open-minded adults will like this too.
aerogoose It seems as though EVERY new Christmas movie that comes out is listed as an "Instant Classic" and this is no different.I think this as a so-so effort with a different approach to the Rudolph story known by all. When presented with the incredible animation process of Polar Express this is, in my opinion, less enjoyable than the Rankin Bass production from 1964. The songs are simple and, even though the Paul and Linda McCartney hit "Wonderful Christmas Time" is listed as one of them, it is only a small snip-it version of perhaps 30 seconds.I prefer the classics that I grew up with like the original Grinch or Rudolph, but my child enjoys the show and, as the saying goes, "To each his own".
bob the moo Young Rudolph suffers a childhood accident that sees his nose turn from the publicly accepted norm of black to a glowing red colour. His parents worry about him getting teased, and indeed he does in the end. When he is beaten in the reindeer games by his rival for a doe he fancies, Rudolph runs away and moves into a cave with Slyly the Fox. However can he overcome his fear and reach his true potential. With the aim of helping parents and relative to make Christmas easier to survive by keeping children happy, television will cram the schedules with kid's movies. However they forget that sometimes adults will end up having to watch them too. That was the case with this one, I ended up watching this and god but was it difficult to get through! The film is the only one I can think of where the plot is actually spoilt by the theme music, not that it matters very much as the plot is the one we all know with some little updates and additions (none of which really make any difference or improvement). To make matters a bit worse, the film is a musical but with really god awful songs all the way through it. This isn't help by the fact that the animation is basic and very much the stuff of Saturday morning cartoons - very bright and basic but with no evidence that the producers wanted anything in the way of imagination or personal touches to come near their product. With the list of names in the cast I had hoped for more. The cast list could easily be read off the new pixar film, as they are all reasonable names and have been in good comedies in the past. Goldberg, Goodman, Newhart, Simmons and Eric Idle all feature but none of them really add anything of their personalities to their roles.Overall this is one big waste of time. I'm not the most festive of people, but I imagine that even Santa would struggle to keep his Christmas spirit if he had to sit through 90 minutes of this film! Bah-humbug! Next year I'll go and buy them Elf on dvd!
