BootDigest Such a frustrating disappointment
Acensbart Excellent but underrated film
Voxitype Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.
Logan By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
Tss5078 Ray Tierney (Edward Norton) comes from a family of cops, and was the best of the lot until an accident in the line of duty cut his career short. One night, after multiple officers are shot and killed, it becomes clear that there is a large corruption ring at work within the NYPD, and the brass turn to Ray to find out the truth, a truth that could lead him right back home. Edward Norton is truly a chameleon in that he can play absolutely any role and be believable. It doesn't matter if he's some computer geek or a tough as nails cop, he always does a great job and no matter what he's in, the film is always going to have an air of credibility for it. The rest of the cast, as well as the story are also pretty good, but this film isn't without it's problems. As with other films that have complex stories and large casts, the story moves so quickly and characters are introduced so fast, that it's difficult to keep track of what's going on and nearly impossible to remember who is who. The story is great and the main characters are well written, but there is so much going on, that it is very easy to get lost in all the side stories. The bottom line is that Pride and Glory would be better suited as a TV series than a movie, but then you wouldn't have the big named cast, and it probably wouldn't last four episodes. The actions scenes are great, the main characters are intense, and the story was terrific if not a bit more complicated than it needed to be.
Floated2 Pride and Glory starring Colin Farrell and Ed Norton is a take on a typical NYPD good-cop-bad cop film with a plot that resembles several old television shows. The clichés come fast throughout(who should know better, having made the far superior version of this film, Narc). Ray has lately removed himself from dad's unit (to the symbolic Missing Persons) and lives on a leaky boat (being adrift and all).A couple minor flaws but I do believe a lot had to do with the operator and not the shaver it self. A few people complained about it pulling on 3-4 whiskers at a time and causing pain, however, they did mention they only tried the shaver two or three times and most all shavers recommend up to 21 days for your face to adjust to a new shaver. Until the 21 days has been reached just try pulling your skin taught to reduce any pain associated with the grace period.
SnoopyStyle Four NYPD cops are down in a drug bust gone wrong. Ray Tierney (Edward Norton) heads the investigation. It's what his father ex-cop brass Francis Sr (Jon Voight) wants. The four are his brother Francis Jr (Noah Emmerich)'s men. As Ray digs, he finds corruption in the department that has entangled his family. Jimmy Egan (Colin Farrell) is his brother-in-law who leads a group of corrupted cops. It's a gritty crime drama with lots of top notch acting talents. The acting is good, but there is nothing here that is new or surprising. Writer/director Gavin O'Connor has infused this movie with a grimy messy style. The tone is dark. The story is a little bit confused with a few too many characters' POV and is also somewhat formulaic. It's a movie that has been done better elsewhere.
matthewwalker50 One of my favourite cop drama's has to be Pride & Glory. It has to go down as one of the most entertaining cop thrillers I've ever watched. That's no joke either. I think this is filmed with real power and passion compared to most cop movies. It's really tense & gripping. Utterly compelling to watch at times. It's much tough & grittier than cop films like, say Dirty Harry. Biggest difference between this and Dirty Harry is this is much nastier, darker, tougher, & grittier. It is filmed with much more passion and honesty. Some scenes feel so realistic you'd think you're almost watching a cop documentary of someone's life as a cop, & dream of growing up to be a cop. Colin Farrell (Though I don't like him) gave a stunning performance in this, one of his best if you ask me. Ed Norton gave a blistering performance to. In fact, I'd only rate his performance as racist Nazi American Derek Vinyard higher. He showed to me that he is a great actor, and he can act so well when he gives it his all. The story mostly evolves around finding Angel Tezo, who is the target. The Tierney family which include Ray Tierney, his bro & sister, and her husband Jimmy Egan, along with Tierney Senior. I found the funeral part very gripping to watch, and the confrontations were intense throughout the movie between the cops. There is a lot of profanity which is understandable in a film like this. It is really entertaining and the acting is convincing and powerful. I would definitely encourage people who enjoy anything such as documentaries on cops or other cop thrilling films to buy this. I'm really pleased I bought this, it was well worth the cash. 8/10 is my final rating (Which means excellent). Don't miss this powerhouse of a cop film!
