Synopsis

In a seedy bar in a town ravaged by war, scientist and businessman Hunt hires mercenary and former Royal Marine D.C. to assemble a crack team of ex-soldiers to protect him on a dangerous journey into no-man's land. Their mission is to scope out an old military bunker in Eastern Europe. It should be easy – 48 hours at the most. Lots of cash for little risk. Or so he says...

ChicRawIdol A brilliant film that helped define a genre
AnhartLinkin This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.
Kien Navarro Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
Leofwine_draca Believe it or not, the Nazi zombie is actually a staple of the horror film. Yep, enough of these films have been made to make the 'Nazi zombie' movie a sub-genre of cinema in its own right. It all started with the Peter Cushing film SHOCK WAVES made back in 1977, and then two Euro directors, Jean Rollin and Jess Franco, made their own low-budget variants on the subject with ZOMBIE LAKE and OASIS OF THE ZOMBIES. Now comes OUTPOST, a low budget British entry in the genre which also has much in common with recent war/horror efforts like THE BUNKER, THE TRENCH, and DEATHWATCH.The film kicks off with a bunch of hard-ass guys, ex-soldiers all, going on a mercenary mission to Eastern Europe. As per usual for this genre, the colour stock is subdued, at times virtually black and white, and there's a depressingly lifeless look to the surrounds. The director goes out of his way to make all of these guys unlikeable, and he even says so on a behind-the-scenes documentary, arguing that most modern directors have to have at least one likable character and he wanted to change that. Fair enough, but it does mean that we're lacking in compassion for these guys when the nastiness starts. My favourite character is the slightly sympathetic scientist, played by Julian Wadham, who investigates some misguided experiments with physics and eventually learns the truth behind the deserted outpost. The leading role is given to the gruff Ray Stevenson, who is also very good. Stevenson has plenty of experience playing these hard-man roles which is why he's so convincing. Other characters are fairly predictable – the twitchy Russian, the sarcastic Scots, the redneck American and the token black guy doomed to die a horrible death. The film takes a while to get going, but that's fine with me as there's plenty of atmosphere building up to the turning point. Then the director throws in a handful of very grisly death sequences and things start getting really nasty. It all ends with a massed attack of Nazi zombies which is extremely unsettling and effective, although the twist epilogue is a little staid. So, yeah. I didn't find this as spooky as DEATHWATCH, but it does pick up towards the end and those Nazi storm troopers are an effective menace. The gore sequences are extreme and veer towards unwatchable, dragging out the violence to tortured lengths, but some of the (human) soldiers are so unpleasant that you're actively wishing that they'd hurry up and die already. That does rob the film of emotional involvement and attachment, but visually it works a treat and the climax is still superbly-done. Not a bad little movie at all, even if it does resemble the likes of DOG SOLDIERS and others a little too much.
hoytyhoyty This film deserves a lot of praise just for effort alone. It delivers EXACTLY what it says on the tin, and is a lot of fun. What more could you ask?The setup is great, and the location is perfect. They get a lot of mileage and suspense out of a near-empty field and some gloomy corridors. The performances are good all-round, and the characters are drawn with enough depth that you care when something happens to them.Apart from that, the plot is silly silly silly - but it's a horror film, I really don't think that's going to put anyone off. Also at least the plot provides for some quite creepy situations, especially in the lead-up when you don't know what is happening.I have one major criticism and it will probably attract ghouls rather than repel anyone - it resorts to torture-porn, briefly, in a couple of places. They weren't enough to wreck the film, but after most of the film is dark-house-spooky it was a bit much. And finally: as has probably been mentioned by other critics, fans of a certain FPS computer game series (I am one) will almost certainly get a kick out of this film!Verdict: Silly, has its faults, but very well executed and quite enjoyable.
Be Bi If you ever know about German history, this movie will really make you lose your trust into movie makers. It wasn't shoking, as for a horror movie it should be. The plot surely was written by an ape, who read a funny book about good old Hitler trying to create super ghost ubernazis with freaky tech. So odd. The ONLY Good thing about that movie was Ray Stevenson. His acting is truly great as i also loved him on the HBO Series "Rome". So sad he gave his best for a movie stupid and silly with literally no substance like this... go and watch supershark, way better waste of time. The beginning of this movie was promising. A fellow hiring gunmen to search for nazi gold, turning into a bloodbath for unknown reason. But as soon as the reason was revealed, you could just forget this movie. Especially the killing scenes where so unreal and badly made, with silly effekts and even worse music, that i was about to count the single popcorns in my bag rather than keep watching this movie
atinder Before I start talking about this movie I did see Dead Snow about this time last year, I just Saw this movie few hours ago. I was thinking they were going to have the same kinda of plot but they didn't.Now back this movie Set in war-torn Eastern Europe, a band of battle- worn mercenaries undertake a dangerous mission into a no-man's land at the behest of a mysterious businessman. When they locate and secure a disused military bunker, they also discover a terrifying secret that has laid buried for half a century--and which they'll have to fight to survive. Outpost has more of a story, more suspense, and some really good acting but a not lot of Ghost/Zombie action in this movie.Talking about Ghost/Zombies were creepy at the start of the movie, when they come and go out of blue but we don't get see the face until half away into the movie, i think the make up effect was really good. The ending was really disappointing did not like how this movie ended at all. I saw few good review for this on horror site, I thought this movie would have been much better then it was!5 out of 10
