Karry Best movie of this year hands down!
Solemplex To me, this movie is perfection.
Afouotos Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.
Guillelmina The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
Tim Kerr-Thomson I watched this with my Grandaughters. Not a bad story with lots of songs. However, it got a bit dark and scary in parts with some serious concepts Which made believe it's not really a movie for kids under about six. On an adult level I thought the animation was straight out of 80's 90's Japanese anime ( maybe it was supposed to be like that. I don't know.)
alexholmes-77151 As a brony, I was very excited for this film. when it came out, I saw it with my friend's mom and her youngest daughter(since no one else was willing to take me though my grandfather probably would have had I asked). I was not disappointed in the slightest. it's very easy for a movie based on a tv show to feel like just an extended episode(fingers crossed that the family guy movie doesn't go down this route) but luckily, this film avoids that and passes with flying colors. I doubt there will ever be a sequel since the end of the tv series is rapidly approaching but if for some reason there is, all I have to say is this...SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
teleconman It wouldn't be in anyone's best interest to watch a kid's animated musical film on a decision made by themselves, but for this movie, I wouldn't look at you with a tilted head, and open mouth preparing to insult you. Instead, I would smile and jump up and down clapping my hands together because the chances are you probably watched all episodes of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic before watching this movie. Don't worry I won't judge this movie based on what I've seen in the series. But Let me say a few things that, based on the series, would have really made this movie either shorter or longer...1. If Discord had a bigger role in this movie, it would be very short. 2. Why don't the Crystal Empire or Changelings help out the other ponies. 3. Zecora? 4. Where is Starswirl the Bearded and his pony-avengers? and 5. Starlight Glimmer and The Great and Powerful Trixie are clearly in this movie, why don't they use the powers of friendship that Twilight taught them to help save Equestria. Not to mention that Starlight can be very powerful too...But I digress, I understand that this movie is meant to re-solidify the bonds of the mane 6 and teach kids that yes, friendship is indeed the greatest tool you will ever need. Now that I've gotten that out of the way, let me talk about the movie. This movie really surprised me. I avoided this movie and thought it was a joke, like anyone else who wasn't a kid and was just waiting to see Blade Runner 2049. But after watching the show, and even the equestria girls films, I thought that I was ready to watch this film. I'll admit, there are some moments where I thought the comedy was only meant for kids. If I laughed at Pinkie Pie having a hallucenigetic experience in the desert or Rarity taking the time to admire herself in a mirror as she is falling out of an airboat, I know that I would be lying to myself. As far as comedy goes it wasn't something that would even get a chuckle out of me. But really? Why would I praise this movie highly then? My Little Pony has been known to put things on the show that seem to be too frightening and intense for something made for kids. What I'm trying to say is, This franchise has BALLS. I guarantee that as you watch the movie, there will be a moment where you can't believe this got put in a kid's movie. But then again, An American Tale was approved for kids despite everything in that movie being depressing. Of course I like the way the filmmakers approached the film because this is the movie, and you definitely want to go big. The main focus of the movie is, as I said, the Mane 6, Princess Twilight, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, Applejack, and Fluttershy, plus Spike the Dragon, going to go get help after Tempest Shadow, A female-pony version of Kylo Ren, takes over Equestria, (Technically, just Canterlot) in the name of the Storm King. The great thing about this is that the movie is an adventure. You follow the heroes as they go get help from the Queen of the Hippogriffs. This allows them the chance to meet new characters as well as get more celebrities in the My Little Pony universe. And it works, because after all the Mane 6 making friends is what they do best. Singing is something they do well too. The songs in this movie are great. You will probably have one stuck in your head after watching the movie. I'm glad that someone thought about making another movie for My Little Pony. This film continues to give the franchise a good reputation, for fans and those who are just being introduced to it.
lunalovitt Marking this as spoilers just in case something I say could be construed as such.I think at this point the writers for the show and movies are doing a far better job at creating more likable and interesting side characters than main characters. If I could have a movie or series based solely off of the redeemed villains and their adventures and struggles to overcome their differences and learn how to deal with life after their periods of evil, then I'd gladly take that over another "Look here at Princess Twilight! Isn't she great? WORSHIP HER." movie. At this point I feel like Twilight is being shoved down everyone's throats in the MLP movies and show and I dislike her even more now than ever. Her character traits only cause more problems than they solve and this movie is no different. She's just so unlikeable now that I was rooting for the bad guys to win the whole time just to end the Twi-fest. For once I'd like to see someone else take center stage for an MLP: FIM movie because so far no version of movie or TV Twilight (including in Equestria Girls) has any redeeming qualities or character development. That all being said, the animation was very good. It had the feel of the show, but on a higher level and I'd like to see another movie done in this style. The voice acting was great as well. The songs were generally decent and the singing was good. Overall forgettable tunes, to be honest, with the exception of Tempest's solo though. The addition of the new species and kingdoms was a huge plus as there was a great range of new characters and something other than ponies to look at for once. Going off of that, the character design aspect of all the new characters was on point, and, and maybe it's just me thinking this, but bold for an MLP piece. The decision to actually scar a pony and give them a physical alteration as a result of trauma is something new to MLP, but the story behind it as well as the overall character development because of it was spot on. Tempest, by far, is one of my all time favorites now up along with Sunset Shimmer. I was a little disappointed that she didn't get her horn back, but to be fair even without it she is a completely capable character with the ability to literally kick butt on a level that no other character has ever been able to accomplish before. It's sad to think we'll probably never see her again.Overall my lower score is due to Twilight, pure and simple. She was just so unlikeable and really taught no lessons in this movie. So much focus was put upon her when really she was practically useless and was the central cause of many of the arguments, downfalls, and stress of the story. Yet for some reason we're supposed to treat her like some kind of god character that is integral to everything and who is the only one who can ever solve any problems. It's so aggravating at this point that only she is is made out to be the competent hero when clearly there are others who better deserve the spotlight. For example, Pinkie, Dash, and Rarity given that it was their contributions that led to the alliance of characters that successfully managed to save the kingdom in the end while Twilight did NOTHING other than go against the very thing she is a princess of, that being friendship. It's actually kind of sad that it was the other characters who went out and made friends and won the day while the "princess of friendship" only resorted to mistrust and thievery to try and accomplish her goals. While the former does make sense given the early betrayal by Capper, the latter is uncalled for given what she is supposed to stand for.Anyway, rant over. The only redeemable qualities about this movie were the visuals, the side characters and villains, and the soundtrack.
