GamerTab That was an excellent one.
ChanFamous I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
Bluebell Alcock Ok... Let's be honest. It cannot be the best movie but is quite enjoyable. The movie has the potential to develop a great plot for future movies
Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
WakenPayne I'm not a Michael Jackson fan. I'll clear that up now, There's nothing wrong with his music and his dance moves were very good. I did think this song was okay so I'll give it credit but I will say there was a synth solo while Michael and the other zombies dance that to me just went on a bit too long. The plot is that Michael and Janet Jackson fall into the usual horror movie trope of they're in the middle of nowhere and the car's out of gas. As they're walking and talking soon Michael turns into a werecat, only to be watched in a theater by Michael and Janet Jackson. Janet leaves and Michael follows but on the way home they're intercepted by zombies, made by the awesomeness of Vincent Price monologues. They dance with Michael and Janet runs away to an abandoned house and the zombies break in like they're in Escape From New York only to find out that didn't really happen at all. This is iconic and it does start out pretty good with the verses and the Vincent Price monologue. I'll say it might go on a bit too long. It takes about 5 minutes for the video to start and even then there's more dialogue before it starts and also with the ending. I mean yes, I like the cinematography and even stuff like the set design of the graveyard is appropriately B-Movie-ish. There is a lot that this music video does right. In my personal opinion the only thing really wrong with it is that it's a little bit longer than I would've liked.
Mr-Fusion John Landis, Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones; there's a lot of star power behind "Thriller". And believe me, it shows. Movie-length pop videos are a dime-a-dozen these days, but back in '83, this was pretty damn special. An awesome song, lavish production values, and my god, the makeup! That Rick Baker was no joke."Thriller" scare the pants off me when I was a kid, and that's the primary reason it's taken me so long to watch this front to back. It's George Romero creepy, it's fun, and best of all, an undeniable toe-tapper.This is how you do a music video! 10/10
Horst in Translation (filmreviews@web.de) "Thriller" is probably Michael Jackson's most famous music video, possibly the most famous video from any artist. Hard to believe, it's almost 30 years old already. It has his usual music video director John Landis on board again and as a nice addition horror movie legend Vincent Price narrating some verses. The song is not bad, although it is not my favorite from Jackson. And as I intend to solely evaluate the music video as a short film, I can't really come up with a positive judgment. It has lots of characters from horror films and the master himself even develops into a zombie and a werewolf. However, even if the make-up-work is impressive, this short film is neither really scary (I wonder if it was considered like that in the 80s) nor did it tell a particularly watch-worthy story. If you're interested in the history of music videos or the tragic life of Michael Jackson, it's worth the watch. Otherwise, you can do something better with these 15 minutes.
TheLittleSongbird Thriller has always been a treasure. I have always liked Michael Jackson's music and I am a huge Vincent Price fan, so Thriller seemed like a perfect combination. And for a music video or anything even, it is a classic. It looks wonderfully spooky and Gothic, and while corny the dialogue is also fun. The story likewise, especially when they take a shortcut through a graveyard. The dancing has Jackson written all over it, the epitome of coolness, and the dancing vampires and werewolf are deliciously macabre. Jackson is in a role that plays to his strengths, and Ola Ray is alluring. But I remember Thriller for primarily two things. Vincent Price is charismatic and deliciously smarmy, his delivery of his "rap" is brilliant. Even better is the song, nearly twenty years later(though it was 13 since I first heard it) it is still catchy and has endless replay value. All in all, a thrilling classic, if only music videos in general were as good as this. 10/10 Bethany Cox
