Stellead Don't listen to the Hype. It's awful
Micransix Crappy film
BallWubba Wow! What a bizarre film! Unfortunately the few funny moments there were were quite overshadowed by it's completely weird and random vibe throughout.
Aubrey Hackett While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.
karen-loethen The first time I saw this film I so shocked with how AMAZING it is. I'm not a Toni Collette fan at all so I was not optimistic. But she is excellent in this movie.I haven't read any other reviews here but I'm sure many reviewers have dissed the film because it is not easy to watch, but the truth it, it's an absolute GEM. Rough, rude, odd, untidy, off-beat, and gob smackingly brilliant.Mental vs. Normal: a brilliant and rare absence of the instinct of conformity.Lily Sullivan is positively incandescent in her nonconformity. The casting was amazing, the story is about as unique as is possible to be, and the stunning continuous resolutions make this a super film to work your way through. Let this movie make you think. LOVED this film.
leonblackwood Review: When I saw that this movie was made by the makers of Muriel's Wedding, I kind of knew what to expect. Its very much like Muriel's Wedding and some of the storyline was the same but it's still funny with a deep undertone. Its about a family who all think that there going mad, hence the title, and the mum of the children ends up going mad because her husband doesn't come home. There mum finally ends up spending loads of her husbands money on useless items so she gets put in a mental institution which means that there dad has to take care of them. He soon realises that he can't handle his children's behaviour so he hires a live in nanny who takes care of the children while he's battling to become the town mayor. The new found nanny uses her warped abilities to try and sort out the kids and bring them closer to there dad. I quite enjoyed this original movie, which had some amusing moments and the storyline does take some unpredictable turns which did surprise me. It doesn't slow down from beginning to end and the acting from the whole cast, especially Toni Collette, was spot on. You do have to be in the right frame of mind to watch it because of it Australian warped sense of humour but it's a fun, crazy film which has its ups and downs. Enjoyable!Round-Up: Whilst watching this film I was wondering were they were going with the storyline, but the director done well to bring in different elements to the project. Toni Collette has become a big star since Muriel's Wedding with movies like the Sixth Sense, Shaft and Little Miss Sunshine but in this movie she fitted in well as the crazy nanny who tries to make the 5 girls gain confidence. Liev Schreiber &  Anthony LaPaglia were great additions to the cast and I liked the relationship between Collette & Schreiber which was a good twist to the strange storyline. In all its a very Australian comedy which is very much like Muriel's Wedding but it does have some different elements which makes it interesting. Budget: N/A Worldwide Gross: $3.6millionI recommend this movie to people who are into their comedies/dramas about 5 girls who get brought up by there crazy live in nanny after there mum goes mad. 5/10
shebashawn First off, I love all of the actors in this movie. Everyone did a fabulous job. This movie did a great job with how other's perceive 'mental' people. This film has a fabulous opening and fabulous ending. I'm sad that this movie wasn't in a movie theatre near me because I would have seen it at least twice.I appreciate this movie so much. So much that I would recommend it to anyone. Especially people who have obsessive compulsive disorder. They are some crazy people. The reason I love this movie so much is because the female character's who are considered 'unpopular, and mental' are so likable. I love a good movie with a fabulous ending. Sequel? I hope so
Alan who Having just watched the abominable Jurassic Attack, and its appalling acting / effects / storyline I sought light relief in this movie. As with much of Aussie Humour some of it can seem crass and even bizarre (think Black Sheep), this was no different and turned out to be way better than some reviews would have you believe. It is a very enjoyable, zany movie and the casting was very well done and they gelled perfectly it is difficult to pick out a best performance, the last movie I paid to watch was the Big Budget garbage 2012, and wanted to leave 10 minutes in feeling bad I paid to watch it, I would have left the theatre in a better mood if I had watched this instead.Watch, enjoy and have a laugh, our crazy colonial cousins turned out a beaut :)
