Alicia I love this movie so much
Matrixston Wow! Such a good movie.
FrogGlace In other words, this film is a surreal ride.
FirstWitch A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
zif ofoz The movie starts well enough with the Turkish setting and over enthusiastic friends. Then the flick starts on shaky ground once it goes to Armenia. There are too many plots and subplots to compete with Kennedy's attempt to get back to Turkey. The viewer needs a history lesson to actually understand the whats, and whys in the story plot line. The whole movie begins as a silly charming adventure comedy then becomes a serious romantic story in conflict with local customs in marriage arrangement. It just becomes unfunny, silly and with a very sugary ending.
jbar19 There were times I didn't like this movie. It moves very slowly and the story is a far fetched. But I can't help but like it. I kept cheering for the two leads to get together even though the whole thing seemed silly. Some of the characters were amazingly one dimensional, (Tahn, Buldo and George) and some of the villagers seemed unrealistic, PLUS, the whole kidnapping/rescue thing was ridiculous.....But I could put up with it for the scene of them getting together.Ended well, enjoyable, moves slowly, but eventually worth it. The girl is the movie.
J Story This movie occurs for the most part in Armenia and in Armenian, so subtitles are a given. I have no idea how realistic Armenian village life is portrayed, or how serious the threats that exist in border areas, but it is at least as plausible as the nonsense that the big budget Hollywood movies routinely dish up.All that aside, the movie engaged me from the very beginning, with characters who were not only driving the movie forward, but who had clear motivations for their actions. Although the plot line was simple enough, it was the characters that made the movie more than watchable. I will also add a special mention for the music, which was neither too little nor too much, and reinforced the point that in the movie, America is a distant land. It is not a criticism of the movie, but at its conclusion I was left with a feeling that there ought to be a novel on which the movie was based (or vice versa) which would go into more detail on the political and culture issues that were only hinted at.Overall, nicely done, and, of course, Angela Sarafyan as Ani is perfectly lovely.
awab_avril Okay, the movie was amazing in its parts about Armenian culture and it was shockingly true and funny at the same time. I am also very happy to see many actors from different nationalities here. So its not some stupid Americans depicting a foreigner and looking foolish. Anyhow, I really enjoyed most of the movie except for two parts that made me uncomfortable and a little irritated at the same time. The first part is the American actors in here. It might be funny but the characters were very obnoxious and for me they were the main reason why I am not giving this movie a 10! Very rude and stereotypical American tourist characters. Even when the tourist was in Armenia, he was very irritating to watch. Not funny at all! The second part which made me very uncomfortable was "Ani's" comments about fighting Muslim countries! That was very rude in addition to depicting Azerbaijanis as rapists and bad people. The movie is great but this part is very wrong and racist against Azerbaijan and Turkey! Unacceptable at all!
