Noutions Good movie, but best of all time? Hardly . . .
Baseshment I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
Allison Davies The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
Kaelan Mccaffrey Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
jonathanruano "Lambada" (1990) has a pretty laughable, hackneyed script. The story is also very predictable: Kevin 'Blade' Laird (Eddy Peck) is a high school teacher by day (a bit like Clark Kent) and then he turns into lambada dancing superman by night at the barrio dance club, "No Man's Land," and teaches poor Latino kids about mathematics and other subjects into the bargain (so that they can obtain their high school diplomas). But with all that said, a crazy part of me still liked this film. One reason is the really hot and sexy lambada dancing, against a backdrop of great 1980s music, that creates a lively and exciting atmosphere for a movie that would otherwise have been hamstrung by its poor script and inept plot. The second reason is that J. Eddie Peck (Keven 'Blade' Laird) and Melora Hardin (as his high school student Sandy Thomas) generate more chemistry and sparks together than the vast majority of couples do in the romantic comedies, including the recent "Friends with Benefits." To be sure, "Lambada" is not a profound film about the human condition in keeping with the tradition of the great romance films. But watching Peck and Hardin interact on screen does wonders for the libido (even if the high school teacher ultimately remains faithful to his wife), making "Lambada" surprisingly effective as an erotic film. The third reason why I liked this film is because all the so-called high school students, including Melora Hardin, look like they are in their twenties. As a result, the sexual tension building up between Kevin and Sandy does not look dirty at all. Overall a pretty entertaining movie. 6.5/10
xjrgx This movie was one of the most surprisingly entertaining movies I have ever seen. The dialogue was just not grossly disengaging, but the gawdy dance choreography couldn't help but make me laugh. This movie reminded me of West Side Story, except as if directed and choreographed by a blind, mentally challenged individual. The storyline, if you can call it that was so terrible. While watching the movie you know it is so mentally abusing to do so, but like a train wreck, can't help but keep your eyes fixated on its amazement.Definite must see, if you and your friends want to have a great laugh, or if you are just feeling self-destructive.
Reg Don't let the credits mislead you, Jennifer Lopez only has a small supporting role (a dozen lines at best), and the "no-name" stars give performances which justify their subsequent demise on the Hollywood movie scene. Bad acting, unbelievably implausible plot lines, and second rate dialogue are only accentuated by cookie cutter characterizations. If I'm ever stuck in a bad-ass L.A. Latino neighbourhood, I hope I'm lucky enough to run into this movie's gang members; at worst my car would get a new paint job. The predictable happy ending is capped off by yet another forgettable dance sequence, making one yearn for the comparably energetic, stylish excellence of "Footloose" or "Dirty Dancing". If you choose to spend a few hours watching this drivel, be sure to do some housework as well so it's not a complete waste of your time.
entrapment27 It's a steamy hot movie especially for dance fans. After seeing this film, I wouldn't mind learning the Lambada from one of my teachers! It stars Kevin Laird , a Beverly hills teacher by day and a lambada dancer by night at the hot L.A. club No Man's Land where he teaches drop outs Beverly Hills math. But his Student Sandy knows nothing but his dance moves at the club. The movie really catches your attention from the get go but Sandy's crush tends to get a bit annoying especially when Kevin flat out rejects her advances over and over again. You start to feel sorry for the guy. But the dance scenes are the best and who can forget Sandy's sexy daydream. I wouldn't mind riding a motorcycle and a man at the same time! If you loved this movie, you'll love the soundtrack as well. It'll set the night on fire!
