Wordiezett So much average
Unlimitedia Sick Product of a Sick System
Dynamixor The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
Hayden Kane There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
sumanbarthakursmailbox I never thought the day would come when I'd feel sympathy for Dino Morea, especially since he's inflicted such terrible performances on us in his short but shameful acting career. But after watching Karzzzz, I have to say my heart went out to the poor guy even though he doesn't perform much better this time. To be cast as a character who's bumped off prematurely only to be reborn in the body of Himesh Reshammiya is a humiliation nobody deserves. Yes, it's true. In director Satish Kaushik's remake of Subhash Ghai's popular 80s B-movie Karz, Dino Morea plays Ravi Verma, the millionaire romantic who's killed by his wife Kamini (played here by Urmila Matondkar), until he returns to seek revenge 25 years later in the dancing shoes of pop-icon Monty (played by Himesh this time). Despite its preposterous premise, the original Karz touched all the right chords because it was done convincingly. Because it somehow succeeded in being suspenseful, and because one felt familiarity with its characters. The new Karzzzz doesn't work because it has no soul. It's a lazy rip-off where everything from characters to dialogues has been more-or-less duplicated, the only changes being superficial ones which grate rather than update. Why transport the story to Kenya, where, let's face it, a Kaali-Maa ka mandir looks a little out of place bang in the middle of a barren field! What's the logic behind mute villain Sir Juda (played by Gulshan Grover) who communicates by punching musical notes into his computer-operated metal arm? And pray who is going to digest Himesh Reshammiya playing a 25-year-old while Urmila's meant to be, what, 50? The least you expect of a remake whose plot and narrative you are fully familiar with is slickness. But Satish Kaushik's Karzzzz is a sloppy, sluggish soap-opera. The film feels like a showcase of the worst ensemble acting you've ever seen. Every single actor – the leads, the supporting cast, even the junior artistes who appear in insignificant bit roles seem to be trying to outdo each other in the over-acting department. Veteran talent like Danny Denzongpa, Rohini Hattangadi and Raj Babbar ham it up so bad, it's as if they woke up from a five-year coma and discovered they'd forgotten how to act. Newcomer Shweta Kumar who stars as Monty's true love Tina, is more blank than a freshly scrubbed slate, and believe me, I'm being kind to her. But Karzzzz belongs to the embarrassing ineptitude of its two star leads. Urmila Matondkar quivers and shivers even when she's not meant to be afraid; she widens her eyes, she arches her brow, she goes through a whole range of expressions with the speed of lightening. As Princess Kamini, the murderous wife, she lacks the elegance that Simi Garewal oozed in the original, and that terrible accent of hers doesn't help.Himesh Reshammiya – his chest waxed, his tummy trimmed – makes a very sincere effort to pull off Monty. However, despite the careful styling and the precautions to not take too many tight close-ups, Himesh is ultimately unconvincing as the heartthrob pop-star who's hurting inside. His body language is awkward, his facial expressions are contorted, and his dialogue delivery lacks modulation. Suffice to say he doesn't hold a candle to Rishi Kapoor who pulled off the original film on the strength of his charm alone. Yet it's only Himesh who actually appears convinced about the plot and it's only him who seems to want to make this film work. Much of the appeal of Subhash Ghai's Karz lay in its timeless music – who can forget such evergreen hits as Om Shanti Om, Dard-e-dil and Ek hasina thi? Himesh Reshammiya's remake has catchy numbers in his signature style, but it's unlikely that we'll be humming tunes like Tandoori Nights and Lutt jaoon twenty years from now. This Karzzzz is a hopeless failure, and blame for that must go to its director for failing to keep the pace slick and the tone consistent. Consolation comes in the form of a half-dozen scenes that are unintentionally hilarious. Whether it's the sight of Urmila going into a seizure on hearing a familiar tune, or Urmila again maneuvering a plane while firing bullets at Himesh, this film works best as a pastiche, a lampoon, a parody of that popular hit. I'm going with one out of five for director Satish Kaushik's Karzzzz. I wouldn't even recommend it as a film that's so bad it might be fun. This one's just plain bad and I recommend you stay far away.
silvan-desouza Himesh felt he can be an actor, after the popularity he got as a singer His own music album director decided to make a film AAP KA SUROOR(title too of the album) fine Then the film worked at the box office, So now Himesh felt he should remake KARZ(1980) and get successfulThe promos kept showing his nasal songs, all sounding the same, nothing as g8 as the ones in KARZ Then there started showing some b grade style scenes in promos Himesh was overconfident that the film will be a success he as always went on events and promoted the film and made some fake comments to the mediaThe film released and luckily bombedThe film starts off with Dino Morea in place of the annoying Raj Kiran of KARZ, then we r introduced to Kamini played by Urmila and a rather funny take off on Prem Nath of the original by Gulshan grover who has a metallic arm instead of the glass in the originalThe film moves on, dino killed, cut to Himesh being re- born with a stage song and damn!! The first half is as lifeless as AAP KA SUROOR and then the only twist where Himesh tells urmila that he is Ravi Verma that too falls flat thanks to himesh's awkward acting The film is as boring as a 80's b grade film of Mithun Satish Kaushik ruins the remake, with every cliché possible thrown in Music(HR) is okay, but excess of nasal tone spoils it, EK HASEENA THI falls flat Cinematography is one of it's assets Performances Himesh went off his cap and came with a Japanese wig, The rest, well he plays a superstar like in AKS here too in the initial reels but when his character gets serious he acts like he is acting in a stage play, he is too bad his expressions when he conveys sorrow, pain, anger are such a joke The heroine is pure wood except those eyes Urmila doesn't age in the film, a big drawback her acting is unintentionally funny at places and alright at places Danny is a sore point, he doesn't impress and gets to the nerves Gulshan Grover keeps doing his madness Raj Babbar, Bhaktyar Irani have no scope Rohini Hattangudy is theatrical
MilapDesai Himesh Reshammiya is back with Karzzz and yet again as a Music Director, Singer and the main actor. In future he will be back as camera man, director, producer & even light man anyways this is truly awful movie, complete waste of time. As a singer in this movie he will be mostly well known for his god-awful nasal twang and 2) his fake wig! It looks as if he bought that wig from some cheap discount store in Bombay, Quite a deadly combo don't you think. However jokes apart. His nasal twang has become familiar in every household of India, is all set to torment the in this film Karzzzz. Watching Aap Ka Suroor was the biggest punishment and now he's in this movie again. If you are one of many, who think Himesh Reshammiya looks funny with his cap on then check him out without cap in this movie Karzzzz. I bet you will fall off your chair laughing. . Talking about his music his lyricist won't have to do a lot of computer work. When he's writing the lyrics on his computer, he can just write 'auuuuuu' or 'owwww' and then Ctrl+c and Ctrl+V it wherever fillers are required. Except for the a,e,i,o,u keys on his computer, the rest of the keys must be a little dusty. He came in a movie 'Aap ka suroor - the movi'ee'....that's how its spelt and now in Karzzzz I don't get it why they added 4 z's at last? to add more emotions or what ?? I do not know whether he uses pathetic instruments or what but u just consider the opening music of the song "Lut Jaaon Lut Jaaon" its such a crap I mean it defines the word crap. Some argue that Himesh has had several hits but when he sings then it's like a car coming to a screeching halt. Terrible comparison there? He sounds loud, nasal, sometimes feels like crying while singing and other times makes you wonder why is he singing. God gave us nose for breathing not for singing and I personally think he is friend of Osama....he also torture innocent people and himesh also torture innocent people. Only difference is that himesh torture with his songs.... USA has taken action on Osama but we can't take any action against him...only we could do that just close your ears by your hands....Personally I look for music that has a certain amount of shelf-life. Unfortunately none of his albums have a good shelf-life of say beyond a month. If I have to go and buy an album, I'd much rather prefer an AR Rehman to Himesh Reshammiya. If you reading this himesh then concentrate on your music only and take some classes from AR Rehman or else stop giving music.Actually himesh should change his profession because singing is not the bed of roses..
springsunnywinter Some people did not like the idea of Himesh Reshammiya playing the part made famous by Rishi Kapoor, this remake has a lot going for it because the original is supposed to be really good (although I've not seen it). Himesh has worked on some of the original songs and adding new ones. Another reason why this film had so much hype is because to see Urmila Matondkar, who plays the villainous role originally done by Simi Garewal. I intended to see it because I like Himesh and his music. It is directed by Satish Kaushik and he always took Himesh to compose music for his previous films and this time he is taking him for the lead role. The film wasn't bad but not that good either. The story was good but wasn't entertaining or exciting. After watching it I figured out that Om Shanti Om was inspired by the original Karz and that was a lot better than this remake. Remakes don't bother me but I felt that this one was not needed because we already had Om Shanti Om last year. The music is good, the best songs are Ek Hasina Thi & Tandoori Nights and the worst is Hari Om. Overall I won't recommend it to those who don't like Himesh or/and has seen Om Shanti Om. So far the best remake is Don.
