BelSports This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
gamergcfan The first 20 or so minutes are a bit slow, but it picks up with good actions scenes later on. It doesn't hold a candle to the first Ip Man, but it's about equal to Ip Man 2 overall. Ip Man 2 had a better, more interesting plot than Ip Man 3. On the other hand, Ip Man 3 had better and more exciting action scenes. I'd say they are roughly equal. The flaw this movie has (that the first two didn't have) is that is can be melodramatic, but the superior action scenes make up for the overall weaker drama and plotline.Score: 8
NileFortnerBoogieBuddha954 Review: Fans of old school Kung Fu films, will love the solid, joint snapping, action, and overall bad to the bone, amazing movie Ip Man 3 !This is one of the best Kung Fu / action movies that I've seen in a couple of years. I love the first two Ip Man films, and I love this film as well. In this film, we have the returning star himself Master Ip, played by Donnie Yen (Iron Monkey, upcoming Star Wars: Rouge One). I believe that Donnie Yen is officially an action Icon. They can put him in more films, in the Expendables, etc. and I would love it.Ip Man 3 has some of the most beautiful scenery, sets, cinematography, and action choreography I've seen in a long time. Everything looks polished, clean, and like an interesting time, and world to be in. Director Wilson Yip, strives to mix three plots into one story, and while some directors, and writers would have a hard time balancing this act. I believe Wilson Yip, does it well. I also thought it was cool to see Mike Tyson (The Hangover) in this as well. Mike Tyson plays a bad ass boxing American business man. If I remember correctly, Ip Man 2 actually introduced boxing v.s. Kung fu. So it was nice to see that style continue in the third entry. My only small piece of criticism is we get typical bad guys. Typical meaning, I wear sunglasses, smoke cigarettes, carry a knife, have a slick back hair style, and leather jacket. Yet again, it did take place in the late fifties. I was a little confused on why a British police officer, was in the mix with Mike Tyson. Also, out of the last two Ip Man movies, I do find this to be the weakest story. So these are my final Bitchin' Buddha thoughts on Ip Man 3. The action choreography is brilliant, it is fun, a nice looking film, and I would recommend it, to anyone who loves a good action and Kung fu film. I wouldn't mind seeing another collaboration of Donnie Yen and Wilson Yip. They could be the new John Woo and Chiw Yun-Fat, if everything continues to go smoothly. I believe Ip Man 3 earns a...8/10!This review is brought to you by Boogie Buddha, and remember, don't just get down, but get Boogie. Thank you for reading/viewing, and I hope you all have an amazing day and night as always. :)
jramza-1 The movie had some of the greatest wing chun fight sequences I've ever seen, which were extremely well-choreographed and believable (except that most people could never receive the blows these characters take, and survive, let alone keep fighting). However, the dramatic sequences were heavy and frequent, slowing the pace of the movie to make it downright laborious (requiring fast forwarding for the sake of two teen aged boys who, like myself, could not appreciate the dramatic acting by Chinese actors who were rather poorly overdubbed in English). The movie is definitely worth renting, if you have an interest in martial arts films. It's just so well done. But be ready to fast forward ;-)
craigfmason The Ip Man movies are modern martial arts classics, and naturally, the final installment had a lot to live up to to follow the excellent first, and (in my opinion) even better second, and yet it does not disappoint at all.Donnie Yen is superb as always, a solid acting performance providing embellishment to the high class of martial arts we have come to expect from him. The scenes in this are expertly choreographed, beautifully shot, and powerfully delivered, and once again I find myself entranced. A lot of commentary has centred around the increased 'spirituality' in this installment, which I personally welcomed as I find it adds depth that ultimately draws you further into the experience. In summary, another fantastic movie and worthy of the title.
