Phonearl Good start, but then it gets ruined
Tayloriona Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
SnoopyStyle A blood-covered Marybeth Dunston (Danielle Harris) walks out of the Louisiana bayou, carrying a severed head and a shotgun, into a police station and is quickly arrested. The police finds the bloody massacre scene. Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder) comes back to life and starts murdering again. Amanda Fowler (Caroline Williams) sneaks into jail with a plan to kill Victor once and for all. Sheriff Fowler (Zach Galligan) takes the SWAT team into the swamp only to be attacked.Having never seen the Hatchet franchise, this starts quite well. It doesn't hurt to have Danielle Harris who gets hosed down prison-style. She's a good smart-mouthed lead. There is plenty of bloody gore but the characters are nothing more than cannon fodder. It's still fun but they should have kept Danielle with them. Splitting the characters into two groups does not help. I simply don't care about the Sheriff and his people. There is a bit of fun with Sid Haig. This movie is a bit of a gorefest but it could have been more.
GL84 Still alive after her battle with Victor Crowley, a woman is forced to go back into the swamps to save the rescue team attempting to find the cause of the disappearances and find him still alive and hunting them down with barbaric viciousness.Overall this was an utterly enjoyable and over-the-top entry in the series that makes for a wholly enjoyable time here. What really works for this one is the sheer, utter ruthlessness on display throughout the film, which ranges from the opening attack that continues on the themes from the previous entry to the way this one goes for the different attacks and encounters throughout here, there's hardly anything in here that goes for subtlety as it's so over-the-top and gleeful in doling out this extremely fun time. There's also the return here of the utterly brutal and graphic kills that were part of the first one being put to great effect as this one is just so bloody and graphic that it manages to top the original in several cases with the brutality of the kills on display which are not only impressive for the spectacle but also for the creativity into featuring them all in one singular film. That alone would've made this one incredibly enjoyable even before the exploits of what really make this one work in the outstanding action scenes that are simply overflowing throughout the film, not only giving this another positive itself in the frantic pace but also giving this one some of the most enjoyable aspects of itself. The opening attack in the swamp is a great continuation, but it also sets up the first of the many encounters here where the recovery team meets their fate on the river-boat, the resulting massacre in the swamps and finally the film's best parts where the SWAT team is targeting the killer in here through some utterly fantastic action scenes where their weaponry is brought to bear on his hideout which results in a frantic firefight in the jungle, a series of blazing encounters where he just annihilates the entire troupe and being forced to using a bazooka in the situation all to no avail as he continues the assault on them. The final attack on the survivors in the remains of the river-boat is equally impressive resulting in some genuine tension and suspense in the situation as the slowly-growing hole and reduced shelter spaces works against the race to get there for the final dealing blow here is equally enjoyable. Likewise, the suspense from their trek through the dim, eerie swamps at the beginning makes for quite an enjoyable time, as well as allowing for a great break against the unrelenting violence, and coupled with the grisly humor throughout here and the strong story that ties the series together all makes this one truly a lot of fun. While some might find issue with the over-the- top gore, it's not enough of a detriment here against this to hold it down.Rated R: Extreme Graphic Violence, Graphic Language and Graphic Nudity.
jessegehrig They had the money to shoot the film well, like they got a real cinematographer who understood lighting and framing. They had the money for quality post-production work like with editing and cleaning up the footage, it doesn't look cheap, well it doesn't look sh*tty cheap. The effects are also not terrible, so they had money for that and some one who knew what they were doing. I guess the movie's only obvious problem is the story. All that money and all of the resources gathered to assemble this movie and the film makers forgot the most important part, STORY. Folks, do not ever go cheap on story, throw all your money and efforts at the story, hey and here's a novel idea, make that story be original, y'know, unique, the pay-out is always worth it.
vengeance20 Not sure where to start with this one! I mean, it was OK but a few things didn't make it as good!Hatchet III picks up from where the 2nd one ended, Marybeth kills Victor with her shotgun! But! He comes back to life again despite his face being shot in! As Marybeth walks away Victor appears out of nowhere & tries to kill Marybeth but falls in his chainsaw cutting him up in several pieces!Marybeth arrives at the police station with Victors scalp & her shotgun all blood caked & filthy! She then gets put in prison. A reported who knows the story persuades Marybeth to help her for her story along side killing off Victor permanently! Now, although the film was gory, graphic & vicious! I couldn't help noticing the blood was too red & too thin! It seemed more like red watery paint was getting sprayed about & at people! The deaths got abit repetitive & tame as the film progressed! Don't get me wrong! It was gory & right up my street, but because the deaths seemed abit rushed & were quite over used! The characters were OK, not much to say as you only see them for 5-10 mins in the film!Story-line was fairly interesting! Get Victor Crowley's fathers ashes to kill him off for good! There was however a surprise visit from Ben! Yes from the first Hatchet film who we only see for no more than 10 seconds flat! Right before he get a hatchet to his face! But again the films, as a whole, had the stupid female sole survivor horse crap in them! I dislike that very much in these films! Not much else to say! The ending was good! Marybeth smashed the urn onto Victors face & chose to fire a shot at him via a shotgun screaming "F*#K IT!!"But! We don't know if Marybeth survived or not! Have to wait & see when a Hatchet IV comes out!Overall! It was an average film! Not amazing! Not Crap! But OK!7/10
