ThiefHott Too much of everything
FeistyUpper If you don't like this, we can't be friends.
Megamind To all those who have watched it: I hope you enjoyed it as much as I do.
Keeley Coleman The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;
AlienatorX The creative minds behind the first Guyver movie obviously noticed the tone problem they had so for this film they picked a tone and stuck with it. The result is everything that made the first film enjoyable heightened by a more serious tone and squared to near perfection. Everything about this film is improved, the creature design is heightened, the fight scenes are shorter and to the point, the acting is miles better, the stakes are higher and the tone is fixed on a darker more serious style that makes the film great to watch. One of my favourites in the genre, highly recommend. Director Steve Wang was planning on following this film up with another one but the rights reverted back to their original owners who were not interested in another movie, a crying shame in my opinion.
Dan Rooke I watched this film years ago with my brother. We loved the Anime series and loved the films.I bought this the other week and watched it. I expected to enjoy it with the warmth of nostalgia whilst realising it was a pretty bad film.I actually really enjoyed it! I've watched it again since, maybe it's because of childish nostalgia - but I love the whole Guyver concept. It's quite a mature concept for a film - a guy made loner because of this fantastic gift/burden of alien tech.Dark Hero is sequel, right? I must admit I'm a bit confused now over the various films (I believe there are 2) and the other anime series (at first I thought there was just 1 animated series - now I'm not too sure). For anyone who can suspend belief and enjoy a film for what it is - then I strongly recommend this. It isn't just violence and gore, there's a great meaning running through it, that makes this a Sci-Fi must-watch-classic.
Wogle Just as a note, this is a review based on the edited PAL DVD release.Seriously, people aren't going to expect much from this. It's a B-movie, with unknown actors based on a cool, but average-in-popularity anime.Let's get this point out of the way first. It's not a brilliant movie. It's a low-budget movie, with some seriously bad acting (David Hayter seems to have about 4 facial expressions in the movie). So why do I find it so appealing.Admittedly, I bought this movie on the basis that it starred David Hayter. As a fan of him as Solid Snake, and his writing on the X-Men movies, I couldn't help but get it. It's true he's a better voice actor than actor, but I still enjoyed the movie.Why did I enjoy it? Well it's just a fun movie. Though a lot of it is actually quite cheesy, especially the dialogue, there's nothing like a good old sci-fi movie with martial arts.People can't deny that some of the fighting in the movie is quite cool. However the DVD I had lost about 10 - 15 minutes from the original film, so some of the better fight scenes and gore was removed.That's what probably did the worst for the movie. For a B-movie, it was great, but since the DVD lost a huge amount, I didn't get the full story... Nor did the story seem to make any sense. Despite that shortcoming, enough was there to give you the basics.Conclusively, the score may suggest the movie is only average, and it is to some extent, but really, it's just a movie full of fun.
willywants PLOT: Sean Barker became the unwilling host to an alien bio-armor known as the Guyver. A year ago he destroyed the Kronos Corporation, an organization of mutants who want the Guyver. Now he is trying to find why the Guyver unit forces him to fight and kill evil. He is lead to an archelogical site where scientists discover an ancient space craft. Now he must fight Kronos again before they discover the secrets of the Guyver's origin.ACTING: 3/10- Not especially impressive. Interestingly, though, the main character went on to write the script for the X-MEN films.DIRECTING: 5/10- Dry and boring, shaky. Steve Wang should have stayed doing the F/X.GORE: 8/10- This film is quite gory. A man gets his throat cut, lots of blood poor from the wound. A creature gets his head cut off while in a river, the water turns red. A creature gets his eyes gouged out by a laser, his hands broken off at the rists, stabbed in the stomach multiple times and then gets his head crushed. A creature gets electrocuted and then shot two times. A creature's head explodes. A creature melts down to the bone. A creature gets stabbed with a crow-bar. The death scenes are graphic and bloody.MONSTERS: We get a whole bunch. A Rihno creature, A Frog monster, a intelligent-looking "Predator" like creature, a Bee creature,a beetle man, a scaly humanoid creature, a big ugly alien, and several indistinct aliens in tubes. SPECIAL EFFECTS: 7/10- The creature suits are fun, the monster designs are cool and original.MUSIC: Uneven. Nothing special or memorable.Final verdict- The story is good, the creature effects are fun and film showed consistant effort but the poor acting and weak direction hammer it. 5.5/10.
