Linkshoch Wonderful Movie
Nonureva Really Surprised!
Abbigail Bush what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
Verity Robins Great movie. Not sure what people expected but I found it highly entertaining.
JLRVancouver Sneaky, nattily dressed, space cockroaches attempt to take over Earth by recruiting Ghidorah and Gigan from their secret base in the head of a life-size model of Godzilla. What more could you ask for? They are stopped by the combined forces of Godzilla, his largely ineffectual side-kick Anguirus, and a plucky Japanese cartoonist and his friends (the significance of having a cartoonist as a protagonist is revealed during the climactic battle in a scene that is silly beyond words (and hence I won't attempt to describe)). As kaiju films go, this one is pretty weak: Ghidorah, generally a great monster, arrives as a static model that is completely out of scale with his later appearances in the movie (mostly lifted from previous films) while his ally Gigan is a ridiculous looking cybernetic space bird-bat with huge rubbery-looking claws and a potbelly containing a buzz-saw. After a tedious preamble (oddly full of phallic symbolism), the movie is essentially a continuous fight with some good fiery destruction scenes marred by the monsters throwing rocks at each other. The Earth-protecting monsters seem to actually speak to one another in the dubbed version I watched (and, based on the trailer, may communicate via cartoon-style speech bubbles in the Japanese version -*shudder*). A late entry into the Showa series of Godzilla films, G vs. G continues the emphasis on pollution, rather than radiation, as a plot driver and the role of Godzilla as Our Saviour. Overall, number 12 is a weak entry into the canon but watchable to fans of the genre. A '4' amongst movies in general, a '6' in the in world of daikaiju eiga. Followed by the dire Godzilla vs. Megalon.
jacobjohntaylor1 This is a very good movie. The beast Godzilla movie is the remake from 1998. You don't have to agree. But if your mad about it I'm from Canada that's a free county so get over it you big pooh pooh heads. This is the 12th Godzilla movie. It is also the 6th M.o.t.r.a movie. It is not as good as the 12th M.o.t.h.r.a movie at would also be part 25 to the Japan Godzilla series it is called Godzilla M.o.t.h.r.a and King G.h.i.d.o.r.a.h giant monsters on an all out attack. It is all so not as good as Godzilla Tokyo S.O.S. That would part 27 to the Japan Godzilla series. It would also be the 13th M.o.t.h.r.a movie. That one is also better. Godzilla Final war would part 28 to the Japan Godzilla series. It would also be the 14th M.o.t.h.r.a movie. That one would also be better. All the M.o.t.h.r.a movie are good. And most of the Godzilla movie are good. See this movie it's great. It's very cool. Godzilla and M.o.t.h.r.a movie are OK for kids but there good for adults to. Hockey is for kids and adults that like it are big kids. I would know when Ottawa plays my dad turns into a little kid. This movie is great see it.
jerekra When it comes to Godzilla there are many great moments that I remember. Who can forget when he first appeared and laid waste to Tokyo. Or when he battled King Ghidorah on Planet X and fought King Kong on Mount Fuji. Also his epic duels against his mechanical double Mechagodzilla. There are many Godzilla films that I think back upon with great memories. Unfortunately Godzilla vs Gigan is not one of them.Godzilla vs Gigan begins with a young comic book animator who is employed by a company that resides in a Godzilla Tower. The people that work in the Godzilla Tower are somewhat suspicious and soon it is found out that they are really Kilaak aliens that resemble cockroaches. Their great plan for domination of the Earth involves using King Ghidorah and another monster named Gigan to take over the Earth. It is up to Godzilla and Anguirus to save the day.The issue of Stock Footage must be brought up again as I review this film. WHile it is true that Godzilla's Revenge used the highest percentage of Stock Footage for monster scenes, there is no doubt that in Godzilla vs Gigan the stock footage is used terribly. You can see the difference in the Godzilla Costumes used in previous films and the one used in Godzilla vs Gigan as they show old footage from other movies, mainly Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster. Also the main fight in Godzilla vs Gigan takes place during the night time, but most of the stock footage shows fighting that took place during the DAY TIME!!! Half of the fight between the four monsters, Godzilla, Gigan, King Ghidorah, and Anguirus is taken from previous films and that is always disappointing when you are shown old footage from films rather than new footage. You would think that a tag team battle would be a good thing but that could not be farther from the truth. There are too many scenes where monsters are just standing around doing nothing like in Gamera movies. The fight is often interrupted with human scenes. Interrupted in a good way since it takes so long for anything to get going.Another issue is the fact that the costumes for Godzilla and Ghidorah are awful. Godzilla's costume is falling apart after having been used in the three previous Godzilla films, well actually two since it was not really used in Godzilla's Revenge. Ghidorah is mainly shown in stock footage but when he is not the costume that is used never moves anything other than the wings and head of Ghidorah. I really don't see why Ghidorah is in this movie other than the fact that he is Godzilla's best opponent. The film is titled Godzilla vs Gigan and you would think they would want to show case Gigan by himself and not have him share the screen with Ghidorah.Anguirus looks pretty good. However you have to wonder if there was any reason for him being in the film (other than being the first monster to carry on a conversation with Godzilla in plain English) as he really gets beaten up pretty bad by Gigan and really does not help Godzilla out that much. WHoever choreographed this fight should have been fired. This movie is not all bad though. Gigan looks awesome. He really is a great monster opponent for Godzilla and definitely one of the most physically impressive. I always liked this version of Gigan better than the one in Final Wars. Gigan gets to do a lot of damage on Tokyo and Godzilla and ANguirus. When he uses his stomach buzz-saw it is nothing short of complete annihilation. Also he gets the honor of being the first monster to make Godzilla spill blood. The music is awesome as well. It is basically the same score as in Destroy All Monsters so at least you can enjoy listening to this movie even if you have to put up with watching it.The whole concept of Godzilla saving japan always bugged me since he is so much better as a threat to Japan. And the idea of alien take over on Earth is really getting old and used up.OVerall this is not Godzilla at his best. The music and Gigan are really cool, but that is about it. It just seems like I have already seen this movie with the plot being a similar one to past Godzilla Films and too much stock footage. Definitely one of the worst Godzilla movies along with Godzilla's Revenge. I do not recommend seeing this one.
patrickshay-3 The last poster commented on seeing this Godzilla film in the theater and loved it. As for me I got to see ALL the 70's and 60's Godzilla films in theaters. I grew up on air force bases and Saturday afternoons always brought Godzilla movies ( and other Japanesse and even American BIG BUG movies) to the base theater.25 cents for admission and a bag of my mom's home popped corn and a Shasta cola and I was in Helen! I even remember going to see "Godzilla vs. The Bionic Monster" but then they where sued and the title changed to "Godzilla vs. the Cosmic Monster". I am still a Godzilla geek. In fact, My wife just bought me a whole set of Godzilla toys even tho she has no Idea about the Godzilla universe.
