VeteranLight I don't have all the words right now but this film is a work of art.
CrawlerChunky In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
Merolliv I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.
Michael Ledo This listing is confusing. Amazon has merged reviews for two separate films. Some reviews are not for this film but another special effects film by the same name. The film this review is for is the New Zealand film.Jason (Yoson An) is a young Chinese immigrant raised in New Zealand. His father has passed on and his mother (Catheryn Wu) clings to the old ways. His mother arranges a marriage with a match maker/fortune teller (Geeling Ng- David Bowe's "Little China Girl" in video). She matches him up with May-Ling (Fiona Feng) who looks like a porcelain doll. The problem is that Jason has a Barbie Doll girlfriend in Skye (Rebekah Palmer). The theme is stated that a woman who dies unwed, doesn't have a husband in the afterlife which is a bad thing. You quickly discover that May-Ling isn't exactly alive, although her ghost can interact like a live person from time to time. The film is refreshing that it breaks from the normal film formula. While I praise the film for its differences, the horror aspect was light. IMDB list the film as a fantasy/thriller which is more accurate.Parental Guidance: No bad language. No sex. Shower butt nudity (Rebekah Palmer).
a_baron There are supernatural thrillers that are action based, others that are psychological. Where does this one fit in? "Ghost Bride" is primarily psychological, with a mostly Chinese cast speaking in fluent English; Jason is living a Kiwi lifestyle but understandably his traditionalist widowed mother doesn't want him to marry a guilo. Unfortunately, Jason has a white girlfriend, and hasn't told his mother, who has called in a matchmaker. Jason is not having an arranged marriage, and his mother wouldn't be too happy if she realised who is the matchmaker's choice, her dead daughter. This is quite atmospheric in places but what do you do with a ghost that is capable of materialising anywhere and at any time? Jason strangles her, or it, and they bury the very terrestrial body. At least it was when they buried it. You'll have to make up your mind about this one, but by and large this low budget film doesn't succeed.
AlexisG23 If there is a zero rating, I would have given it to this movie. It was so bad that I had to see how it was going to end.. When I was watching this, I couldn't help but think, "This must have been written by a Westerner who only know about all the clichés and stereotypes of the Chinese culture and tradition!!" and I was right. Even a HK B-grade movie felt more realistic!! There are so many irrational and nonsensical holes within the entire plot. Think a REAL Chinese or someone actually did his/her homework would have known and steer away from all those misconceptions.. Please google 'ghost bride' and read the Wiki entry. No one kills and people do get themselves a ghost bride/bridegroom and move on to get a REAL wife/husband in real life.. I had to post this to warn people how ridiculous the entire plot is and don't waste their time on such a piece of c**p..
gerry barnaby Film Reviewer Likes : Sorry but who ever gave this a rating of 9 out of 10 seriously must be on meds or something because this is no way a 9 out of 10 film. As of Japaneses culture this film isn't to bad as it does capture the traditional wedding theme but this as a horror film fail's massively. Some of the acting is OK but i cant say this was a good film so many flaws it was unreal, some people might find this a good film but this was such a flawed film. Dislikes : Some of the acting was wooden, there was absolutely no scary or intense horror in this film what so ever, the ghost of the woman was in no way scary looking making the film look like a amateur with extreme low budget has made this film. This is what make this the worst film I've seen, im a big horror fan & fair play to the director effort in making this but sorry this film is a massive let down in horror, this is a very student type film film for a class room audience & not a big wide audience. This couple with the pace of the film lets it down. This is one film to avoid.
