KnotMissPriceless Why so much hype?
Sexyloutak Absolutely the worst movie.
Hayden Kane There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
Francene Odetta It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.
Leofwine_draca DANTE 01 is the bastard offspring of ALIEN 3, an unusual science fiction flick set on a prison ship fulled to the brim with bald criminals. This dialogue-lite story features a newcomer to the mix, played with kooky relish by Lambert Wilson (THE MATRIX RELOADED), who soon shows himself to have strange, Christ-like powers after an encounter with an alien race. Unfortunately for him, his presence on the ship soon leads to rioting and all-out anarchy...This cautionary tale is an all-out religious parable in which subtlety is non-existent. It's also a very odd film and one which doesn't really have any entertainment value whatsoever. It takes the old, odd, bald guys from ALIEN 3 and doesn't really do anything with them except for having them act in increasingly weird ways. People like Dominique Pinon certainly look the part but they don't really have characters and the narrative seems to just shuffle from one scene to the next with no rhyme nor reason.Annoyingly, the director is obsessed with inserting clumsy CGI effects into his film, effects which purportedly show some magical processes happening inside the human body, but these effects are extremely dodgy and the brief snippets of gore don't really add much either. The non-existent ending, in which the production team apparently ran out of budget so that they had to stop shooting, is a case in point of how frustrating this misfire is.
charles000 This film may not be for everyone, but for those who like to venture a bit outside the box, and then some, this may be just your cup of tea. There are some beautiful and intriguing graphics, but this is not a big blazing special effects sort of film. That's not the point here (refreshingly so, I might add).Of course, I'm not going to describe the ending, except to say there are multiple potential interpretations, which may (or may not) have been by initial intentional design, but the end result does leave this open ended aspect to the story. But the story itself is interesting . . .The orbiting prison space station and its odd collection of prisoners and its technical / scientific crew (I'll let the viewer decide which is more dysfunctional / insane / evil). Then comes the mysterious new prisoner arrival . . .accompanied by the amazingly beautiful and evil quasi corporate scientist with her experimental but potentially profitable nano-inoculations and . . .It's at this point things quickly get off to an evermore darkish chain of events. As others have noted, there are some gaps in the evolving story . . . perhaps due to budget and deadline limitations, which I can sympathize with.Given that, I still give this production a lot of credit for an ambitious and interesting attempt at this sort of genre' within the scifi artform.
antileft What we all have feared ,hoping that it will never materialize, unfortunately occurred, namely, a French Sci-Fi film, and , yes , it is in the misty nebulae of deeper than the deepest philosophical meanings , interpretations and Lacan-like conclusions ! There is a top security space vessel with the skeleton crew ,but there are no wardens, only a trio of psychiatrists and a bunch of supposedly utterly murderously fixated criminals, whose crime history we never get to learn about, but they are all blessed with religiously –intelectually – deadly seriously sounding names , namely : Persefone , Lazare ,Moloch, Buddha ! to name but a few and this merry-go round starts spinning at incredible speed with the arrival of a prisoner-patient ,who is emitting a sort of religious aura-energy ,and is immediately christened by one of the prisoners as Saint Chrostopher ,who has finally arrived to save them … From something …And then we are left to witness and sigh with bottomless wonder and awe at the endless walks through corridors ,suspiciously resembling the interiors in the Cube series ,and a trio of aforementioned controllers ,who are supposedly controlling something…From someone … And then the course of the ship is changed ,and … the volcano-looking planet ,around which the station rotates,is transformed through the ' deus-et-machina ' intervention by the aforementioned Saint-dude into an Earth-looking planet no less ! And ,yes, if you haven't been annoyed / irritated / depressed enough by this , there is another mind-wrecking surprise in store , namely a narrator , Persefone in person – as a comic relief ? – who is trying to add a necessary element of terrifying explanations ,as unfortunately there is no place for free-wheeling sex (the sexes look the same here ,mind you !) .This movie rejects everything the American , well, the only quality science-fiction genre has produced so far , instead opting for the worst of the worst , namely Russian Tarkovsky-like products ( e.g. Stalker , Solaris ) ,while it also steals from Kubrick's Odyssey series. You have been properly warned , and if you have to , watch without , God forbid , a female companion , specially if you wish to impress upon her ! Better show her a Shaq comedy ! With his size shoes !
boyd1955 Now... Let's be honest ... Caro has never been able to get his head round a narrative ... Delicatessen and City of Lost Children were both wonderful to look at, but were a complete mess when it came to pacing and narrative ... This is so typical today when most of these cinema directors come from Television ... And making ADVERTS ... What we get is loads of flash, but no real substance This film even manages to fail on that front ... It looks cheap ... The story is all over the place ... And in the end it just turns into 2010,only not as good ... Which, lets be honest, wasn't the greatest piece of cinema I'm reading a lot about financial problems with the production etc... But quite frankly, however much money you throw at something it is going to be crap if there isn't a decent idea in the first place... AND THERE WASN"T : )
