ReaderKenka Let's be realistic.
Tacticalin An absolute waste of money
Allison Davies The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
Frances Chung Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
Di Bobi Half of the movie is two people looking at screens. The characters are horrid, terrible acting, unbelievable personalities, some of them are apparently meant to be comedic and are just plain ridiculous, a total cringe-fest.I liked the first movie. It was consistent, it had good acting and was engaging, if only it wasn't full of plot holes, so I've decided to watch this one in hopes to get some answers, which I regret now. Those weren't the answers I was looking for. They screwed it up big time. They turned the whole story into a bad joke.If you, like me, liked the first movie, DO NOT WATCH this one - it ruins the whole franchise. I can't believe how they just ruined the whole thing.Throwing boots, a strong violent black man, generic annoying female character - much like in the first movie are present in this one. But that's it. The cubes are simpler and more boring, the reasoning behind them is flat out ridiculous, as well as the 'people behind it all'.Don't waste your time. This prequel is a bad joke.
mkivtt Do yourself a favor and watch this movie up to the point where the first guy gets sprayed with "water." Turn it off after that. At that point you'll have seen the only decent gore, and you will be spared the boredom and stupidity that is the rest of the "plot." This movie adds absolutely nothing. The gore is lame, the story is laughable, the acting is poor, and the plot holes are bigger than the cube itself.Just some examples. The helicopters can be heard at the lake as soon as they are scrambled. So the base is right next door? How could they possibly get away? The woman's daughter magically appears in the last scenes in the forest. Where did she come from? The "people upstairs" have to come down to the tech room to operate the controls and find the rogue tech guy? Really? With all their tech, there isn't another control room somewhere? Okay, so they have computer eye implants, chips in people's brains, and the means to build a cube... but they can't find one guy in the cube? Even though every room has a camera? Hello, how about a single mosaic channel showing all rooms? Or a motion sensor? Blah, blah, whatever. Not wasting time typing more. I figured with a 5.7 rating it can't be that bad, but it was just dreadful. How anyone can rate this higher than a 3 is beyond me.
denis888 Well, where to begin? If first two films of Cube series were at least a riddle - who built it, why and what for, and that was largely left unanswered and enigmatic, this third installment suddenly plunges head on into this sphere and very quickly begins answering all the questions we can have. And was it a mistake. Sure, it was, and a huge one. Third Cube film is a total joke - it is silly, shallow, terribly kiddish and unpardonably kitsch. The cast is a huge mystery - who on earth would have chosen these awful actors who perform so lackluster and so poorly that any attempt at suspense is lost immediately. What is worse, several characters overplay and overdo so much they become clowns, jesters, mere buffoons, and again, any take on mystery is drowned in drabness. The CGI are nothing new, and in fact, I couldn't shake off a feeling I was watching some amateur Saw variation with same gore and not the same thrill. Again, there is no cohesion, no chemistry, no compassion for heroes, no idea why this awful mess was made. Zero on all levels, this is by far the Worst of all three.
in1984 8.5 of 10. Although it seems to be intended as a prequel for Cube (1997), this film can stand on its own. The ending provides a scary but amusing twist for dedicated fans of the first film. As a whole, it gives a lot more meaning to the Cube series and creates the closest thing to a 1984-like science fiction film that there is without simply copying it for a screenplay (the film adaptations of Orwell's book 1984 have all been horrible, as if they've been gutted by the DHS/CIA/NSA to prevent interest).Whereas the first and second have more of a horror and fantasy feel along the lines of The Cell (2000), this goes beyond both, encapsulating them without destroying them, even making the second film seem plausible, consistent, and maybe even co-existing with the other Cubes. For those wanting to watch the entire Cube series, this should be watched after Cube, ideally just skipping Cube^2 Hypercube. It provides answers to a lot of things left open (and often misinterpreted by people who wanted to force personal views upon the first film), like what's beyond the light, what, if anything, is controlling the cube, and how do people end up in it. While it seems to be intended as a prequel, it's more like a the ending to a mystery that will make you feel as if you've read the ending of a book first if you watch this before the other 2.Note in looking over the reviews of this, it is ironic how people have their own cubes they operate within and want this film to operate within them. It's also weird to see references to the Saw series, which is a very different story despite sharing similar starting elements. If anything, this makes for a better Matrix than the Matrix or an expanded look into what could be a part of the V for Vendetta world.
