Vashirdfel Simply A Masterpiece
Afouotos Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.
Jonah Abbott There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
Zlatica One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.
Suman Shakya "Boss" isn't very different from the Khiladhi series of Akshay Kumar or his Rowdy Rathore which gathered much of audiences. The similar story, fight sequences, songs appear a bit boring by now. However, the emotions, fights, and comedy do work in bit and pieces. But on a whole the film doesn't leave much of the impact; and by the time you leave your seats, you don't remember any of the moments in the movie. Akshay's performance isn't very different from his other entertainers, Ronit Roy is a bot impressive, and other actors don't leave much of impact. Overall, for its technical aspects, the film is watchable; but in terms of story, the film is quite forgettable.Rating: 1 star out of 4
vikrant gangele New Hindi masala story, lots of characters and Akki. But Mithun Chakraborty and others will ham like anything and bore you to death. The songs slow down this movie to a snail's pace. But whenever Akshay Kumar AKA Akki comes in to frame this movie rocks. I am a big Akki fan, and love when Akki does his usual stuff. This movie has all the ingredients for a true AKKI fan, And boy o boy when Akki does action it is at par with any Hollywood Movie. I loved the "mazaar" fight scene, the run on old Delhi streets and buildings 'run' and greatest of all last fight scene. Every movie I seen of Akki right from Rowdy Rathore to Boss Akki has bettered himself in fight movies. I suggest even if you dislike Akki go watch this movie for entertainment.
Achyuta Ghosh Come every festival time and at least one of our shining Bollywood stars rises to deliver a mas-ala entertainer. Boss came. Boss went. The trailer promised much but the actual film sucked. The same old formula is at play- comedy fused action, punch in the guts dialogs, outlandish stunts, Honey Singh and Mika hip hop monotone songs, every alternate scene in slow motion, and inconsequential ladies. This formula has reduced so called entertainers to be near clones of each other, and rather than movie quality, it is the audiences ' fancy deciding whether one is a hit or not. There is an attempt at emotion though- a father turning his son out, and their reunion story. Mithun Chakraborty gives the worst performance of his career as an hackneyed school teacher, preaching non violence and driving that point hard by wearing Gandhian specs. Akshay Kumar playing the titular character, a kind hearted Haryanvi gangster, is a cross between his previous mas-ala characters- Rowdy Rathod and Singh is Kinng. He enters even later than Batman making his entry in The Dark Knight Rises, and brings on the heavy guns- . He only kicks ass if music is playing. Logic says he carry an ipod or two then. But no- this is modern day entertainment. So he carries a full on orchestra, along with dancing girls for his fighting needs. And when he gets bored of beating people to pulp, he indulges them in an attritional game of free running. The laughs are mostly build around crazy plot twists- a bomb placed in someone's rear and a plumber with a spanner taking it out, a truck track, a rocking chair assembled of men- take your pick. Then there is Ronit Roy- the suave but corrupt policeman, also described as chandal, kamina, and other godly terms. He lacks a moral compass. Ronit and Akshay started out at the same time, but their careers have gone in different directions. Ronit is one bright spark about Boss, he looks and acts more bad-ass than Boss himself. Then there is a host of good, supporting actors like Parikshit Sahni, Danny, Shakti Kapoor, Johnny Lever, Sudesh Berry, Aditi Rao Hydari who do not knw what they are doing. Wait- not Aditi- she knows what she is doing, this is after all, her bikini movie- the slender two piece has very high ROI. It has made millionaires out of paupers, so there is that.If i were to find positives, i would think director Anthony D'Souza has improved upon his previous outing- Blue, but that is not saying how good Boss is as it is saying how bad Blue was. Boss is beating the donkey dead. Strangely, even Akshay realizes that - he not only looks old, and haggard, he looks positively tired. The audience is also tired- 4/10
sshogben Most of the attempted slapstick comedy notes in "Boss" fall flat. Yet the underlying dramatic storyline proves surprisingly satisfying, and lead actor Akshay Kumar's sheer joyous athleticism keep his latest film worth a watch. My personal highlight of the film?A roughly five-minute chase sequence where our unarmed title character leads a whole army of pursuing thugs on a merry chase up, over, and through a claustrophobic old-town: the wit and panache with which Mr Kumar 'free runs' and bounds – with a smile and a laugh – are simply a delight to witness.Several particularly well-staged fight sequences remind us that, even at 46, Akshay Kumar's real martial arts prowess has no equal in Bollywood.Other plus points:• Danny Denzongpa (who has always been one of India's most under-rated actors, in my opinion) as 'Big Boss', the title character's adoptive father – such a pleasure to see him in a more positive role, where he shines!• the storyline between the title character and his real and adoptive fathers• excellent fight choreography, throughout• song "Hum Na Tode" immediately after the interval, Mr Kumar's best dance and even a brief cameo by Prabhu Deva – easily the best song of the filmNegative points:• poor writing – especially, poor character development of the supporting characters• one-dimensional villain (though ably played by Ronit Roy)• Sonakshi Sinha's cameo appearance in two songs – just plain fat, embarrassingly so for a film heroine (and the costume designer for "Party All Night" should be shot at dawn!)• the (literally) sniffling idiot• background score – inexplicably loud and actively intrusive at poorly picked moments, such as the climactic duel between Mr Kumar and Mr RoyOn the whole, not by any means a 'great' movie. But enjoy for Mr Kumar's performance in top form.
