Reviews

CrawlerChunky In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
Hadrina The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
Adeel Hail Unshakable, witty and deeply felt, the film will be paying emotional dividends for a long, long time.
Caryl It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties. It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.
missundaztood9 This was largely panned when it came out and was a flop at the box office, but it is a decent sequel and another feelgood film, just like the first one. My advice is to just watch it and enjoy it, and to not listen to any negative reviews about it.
SnoopyStyle Arthur Bach (Dudley Moore) is as drunk and irreverent as ever. He is happily married and supports Linda (Liza Minnelli) in adopting a child. Mrs. Canby is their case worker. Burt Johnson seeks revenge for his daughter Susan by taking over Arthur's $750 million fortune. Susan still wants him back and hopes for him to change his mind. Arthur loses everything and struggles as part of the poorer class living with her father Ralph Marolla. Burt Johnson buys their building and evicts them. They find a rundown apartment with landlord Mr. Butterworth. There's a baby for adoption but Arthur needs to stop drinking and get a job. As the situation hits rock bottom, he is visited by the ghost of Hobson. This movie suffers from the very fact that it was made. Any movie would struggle with trying to continue after Happily Ever After. I think this movie does its best without having to create large number of new characters. It's logical that Burt would seek revenge and it serves Arthur's growth by taking away his money. Most of this works well and Minnelli does not deserve the Razzi for her performance in this movie. Her character shows good heart. There are other problems with the story. I don't like Burt pulling a gun which isn't necessary. The resolution could be better constructed. A sequel is always going to be difficult but this is not as bad as its reputation.
funky_cherry86 I saw this film a few years ago and wondered why would anyone hate this film and give it such a bad review?, Arthur 2 On The Rocks was a decent conclusion to the story of the most lovable millionaire.Liza Minnelli's performance as Linda was as usual terrific and comical, While watching the movie you get to feel for the main characters as they face being broke, trying to fix an apartment and have children. I loved Dudley Moore's role as Arthur as you see him finally facing life and most of all realizing that having money isn't everything.Since we last saw Arthur (Moore) he was on the verge of an arranged marriage to socialite Susan Johnson (Sikes) however he chose to marry his true love and keep his money. It's a few years later Arthur & his lovely wife Linda (Minnelli) are as happy as ever. When it's discovered that Linda can't have children they plan to adopt with the help of Mrs. Canby (Bates) an adoption worker. However a dark cloud soon comes around.Burt Johnson (Elliott) has seized control of the Bach company and as part of a revenge scheme forces Arthur's family to cut him off financially unless he divorces his wife and marries Susan. This film had taken a serious turn for Arthur as he finally decided to sober up and fight back to get his family and what belongs to him. I won't spoil the ending all I can tell you is that it's a happy one.
temos2000 This film is terrible. It is an insult to the original. It is ill-conceived, poorly written, and poorly acted. It violates the original by being trite and unhumorous. It is mean spirited. It wouldn't know subtle if it hit it on the head. It should be destroyed and never played again. The characters are overblown and not believable.John Gielgud does the only redeeming acting in the entire film. The treatment of Fairchild that is supposed to be dramatic is just insultingly cruel. This film totally misses the mark on every count, and should be burned.
