Cubussoli Very very predictable, including the post credit scene !!!
Solemplex To me, this movie is perfection.
TrueHello Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
Ariella Broughton It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.
dworldeater Appaloosa is an excellent western directed and starring Ed Harris. This is my favorite modern western to come out after Clint Eastwood's masterpiece Unforgiven. The film looks sharp and is a very original, intelligent western with a few interesting twists and turns, well developed characters, powerhouse performances and a story that flows very well. Ed Harris and Viggo Mortenson have great chemistry and work very well together as Sheriff Virgil Cole and his deputy Everett Hitch. Renee Zellweger gives a very good performance as love interest Ms. French. Jeremy Irons is a great villain and a very intelligent and interesting character. A brief, but memorable appearance is made by Lance Hendrikson(one of my favorite actors). While there is plenty of violence in this picture, it is not a shoot em' up western. However, Appaloosa is a remarkable film that is absolutely top shelf with lots of depth, psychology and is extremely well put together overall. This film is very under rated in my opinion and Ed Harris and company absolutely deserved some Academy awards nominations for making this remarkable film.
bjlaleman This is an excellent movie. I liked that it was done on film instead of digital. It gives a different feel to the movie. I also liked that the filming was done as a vintage western would have been done. The movie unfolds at a pace that draws the viewer into the plot and is not rushed and cluttered with too much action. All the scenes advance the plot. There is no gratuitous violence, just what is needed to tell the story. The costuming is great, lots of attention was given to make everyone look authentic to 1882, including the Indians. The sets were like real places with small touches to make each set personal and accurate to the times. The weapons and gear for the horses were authentic and period as well. And I loved the train! The movie was very well cast, all the characters were convincing and real to me. When I saw the top 3 male names in the cast, I knew it was going to be good. And it didn't disappoint.
Vard Antinyan I usually read but not write reviews. Now... I needed to write. The main reason is that I did not see anyone of the reviewers have noticed how badly the character of antagonist is developed. First he is introduced to be a cruel, cold-blooded gang leader, who does not blink his eyes when killing police officers. And suddenly towards the and he becomes a coward trying to escape justice. I mean how? How exactly this could be possible in the wild west?Otherwise it is an OK movie, worth watching, though towards the end it becomes a boring mixture of revenge and love, not quite understandable.By the way, it is worth to watch the movie just to see Viggo Mortensen's stunning act!
Paul Magne Haakonsen "Appaloosa" is a good, fast-paced western. And while the movie is about two hours long, it doesn't seem like a long movie at all because the story is interesting and captivating. The story is about marshall Virgil Cole and deputy Everett Hitch who has come to Appaloosa to uphold the law and to investigate the disappearance of the former marshall and deputy.Usually westerns have a tendency to be full of clichés, but I didn't really think that to be the case in "Appaloosa". And director Ed Harris managed to put together an entertaining movie with a solid and proper storyline. The cast in the movie was quite good, and Viggo Mortensen and Ed Harris were both doing amazing jobs in "Appaloosa". But also impressively was Jeremy Irons; his usual overacting and dramatizations wasn't there, and he put on one of his best performances of his career. And there was a great appearance by Lance Henriksen. It should also be said that the atmosphere and mood of "Appaloosa" was really good, and it was like you were actually there in the gritty, dusty old west.If you enjoy westerns, then you should most definitely watch "Appaloosa".
