TrueJoshNight Truly Dreadful Film
Borserie it is finally so absorbing because it plays like a lyrical road odyssey that’s also a detective story.
Megamind To all those who have watched it: I hope you enjoyed it as much as I do.
Aubrey Hackett While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.
lesliewilliams-45723 Cop Willis is assigned the task of escorting criminal Bey to court where he will testify against rogue cops, and the cops will do anything to silence him.A simple premise and hardly original but still potentially entertaining, but in this case - no. The plot is straight-forward and yet littered with implausible moments, even the 'twists' are obvious. As for the dialogue - after being gratuitously assaulted by Bey's unending excrutiating verbal diarrhoea, I started hoping the rogue cops would succeed - quickly. Anything to end this nightmare.
Thomas Engels The idea for this movie is perfect for Willis: a guy who has all the odds against him rises to save the day. However, here the concept fails as the crew takes itself too seriously and overdoes virtually everything. The first thing that comes to mind is Willis' makeup. He looks like he's still wearing his Death Becomes Her makeup. He's just plain ugly, he looks way too old to still be holding a job and there is no strength hidden behind those features.Mos Def, who is also well cast, has dialogs pushed down his throat that must have made him wince. He can do so much better. Now he's just another whino. Very annoying.Overall, aside the casting and the idea for the movie, there is nothing to tell here. It's run-of-the-mill stuff and you have to squeeze out some enthusiasm to keep focused on the movie. Five minutes into the movie you know how it will end and not much later you know both the plot and the bad guys. With the uninspired execution the movie lands before properly taking off.
juneebuggy I almost gave up on this movie after about 15 minutes because of the annoyance of Mos Def's voice. What was up with that!? By the end this became an okay crime drama as Bruce Willis plays a burnt out (alcoholic) NYPD detective escorting a small-time crook the (16 blocks) to a grand-jury session.Willis is impressive with his burnt-out-edness. His character does not resemble any kind of action hero here; unfit, overweight, unattractive, shuffling, gasping for a drink. Well done. And while I like David Morse his character was a bit over-the-top. I mean, I get that they're crooked cops but really, shooting wildly into a crowded NY street and a bus full of civilians. Did the bad cops think they were completely above the law or any repercussions? That they could just do whatever they wanted without consequence? Reminded me a bit of that opening scene with Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L Jackson from "The Other Guys" except that was a comedy. I will say that this grew on me by the end though. 06.13
Prismark10 16 Blocks features a worn out cop (Bruce Willis) given a last minute assignment to escort a witness to the courthouse in two hours so he can testify against some dirty cops. The witness who is played by Mos Def is verbose and with a whiny noise. If I was Willis I would had shot him dead as soon as I sat in the car with him!It soon becomes clear that there are cops who are out to kill the witness and its Willis job to save him and deliver him to court. Hot on the tail are dirty cops led by Willis's ex partner (David Morse). The film is directed by Richard Donner and together with Willis you might have expected some bone crunching action mixed with humour instead it is a run of the mill thriller rather po faced, Mos Def does not provide the laughs but actually is irritating. I expected better.
