I love this movie so much

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.

Remember the movie Ruthless People? It was really funny, right? Who, in their infinite brilliance, decided to remake this movie and make it a frightening drama? The preview of this movie is incredibly misleading; it makes it seem like a regular comedic remake. A rich woman is kidnapped, and her husband is thrilled by her absence, rather than eager to pay the ransom money. Again I ask, who decided to make this a drama? Jennifer Aniston plays the wife, and gives a solid dramatic performance, as she usually does when given the chance. She reminds the audience that she is in real danger, and that her kidnappers could hurt her, or worse.I didn't happen to like it, because I kept waiting for the jokes to start. If you go into it knowing it's a tension-filled, upsetting kidnapping movie—and you actually like that type of movie—you might, well, like it a little.Kiddy Warning: Obviously, you have control over your own children. However, due to sex scenes and extremely upsetting situations, I wouldn't let my kids watch it. Also, there may or may not be a rape scene.

I was vaguely intrigued in this film as I picked it up from the BBC IPlayer on a whim. The story-line / script is well put together with the premise that a couple of ner-do-wells believe they can ransom the trophy wife of a real estate agent. As you might anticipate from an Elmore Leonard adapted script there's plenty of jeopardy for all involved! In my opinion - certainly worthy of a watch.

I swear I was trying to pay attention but after a while the male characters started to kind of blend together until I couldn't quite tell who was who. It was all brown hair and moustaches and aside from the black guy and the big guy they were so same-y.The DVD blurb made the movie sound more interesting than I thought it was. It felt very slow-paced for something that was meant to be 'action-filled'.Also the large chunk of racism and anti-Semitism was just... weird. I don't know whether that was where the 'comedic gem' part was supposed to come in; if so it really didn't work.Always like Jennifer Aniston, and she played her role well, but sadly she was the only bright spot in this movie.

Before watching this, I had no idea this had any relationship to Jackie Brown (I didn't look into the origin of the story/novel this was based on), so fortunately for me, I didn't have anything in mind or tried to compare the two with each other (or the movie with the original novel for that matter). We do get a light fun comedy caper, that is predictable to a point. But still fun to watch. It might not be the best movie in that genre, but the characters are nicely written (obviously considering the origin) and the actors have fun playing in it, which shows on screen. The novel might be a bit of a give away, but I did not see that end coming. And I did like it very much
