Aubrey Hackett While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.

Then this is your show. A lot of sources can give you the early life bios and successes, but this show gives the details of what happens in those "dark years", the years after the music stops. And what caused the music to stop, whether it be studio politics and/or personal demons. Also, the delight of this series is that it focuses on the talented, yet forgotten stars. Everyone knows the Luther Vandross, the Marvin Gaye, the Billie Holliday, and the Diana Ross. But what about Phyllis Hyman, Donny Hathaway, DeBarge, etc..., prepare yourself for some enlightening, entertaining, and at times saddening, moments while watching this.
