Duncan Gosseyn REN & STIMPY reminds me of another animated show - INVADER ZIM. A lot of people on the Internet might have you believe that INVADER ZIM is the greatest cartoon of all-time. It's really stupid, though. REN & STIMPY is also loved by the Internet but it is far better than INVADER ZIM. Still, the writing on the show isn't very good. The animation, especially in the first two seasons, which were made by Spumco, is great. I'm not going to deny that. But writing is more important. You can have characters doing crazy and weird things but if they don't say funny stuff along with doing funny stuff, the show won't be as funny, in my opinion.REN & STIMPY might have been the first cartoon of its kind but other cartoons borrow from it and really made quite a few improvement to the formula. A few examples would be SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS, ED, EDD 'N' EDDY, and THE GRIM ADENTURES OF BILLY & MANDY. Those are all meant for younger audiences and they don't feature the maniacal animation that defines REN & STIMPY, but they were funnier because they had good writing to compliment the animation.This is just about the series in general, of course. There are some very well-written episodes, such as "Stimpy's Fan Club" and "Ren's Pecs" among others.And another thing - I think John Kricfalusi did a much better job at voicing Ren than Billy West, or at least I like his interpretation of the character more.

frannyw1807 The Ren & Stimpy Show, for me, is a very entertaining show. The animation is very amusing to watch! The reason I put 9 stars is because Seasons 3-5, when the creator John K., was fired, aren't as high quality as the original Spumco cartoons. Season 1- When the show was at its "cuter, more friendlier" time. Season 2- Extremely amusing! (the Carbunkle cartoons are the best) Season 3-5- Meh. Overall, Ren & Stimpy left a big mark on future cartoons. Although, Nickelodeon's cartoons today aren't especially up to scratch, especially Spongebob after the creator also left, and the Fairly Odd Parents since Poof and Sparky got introduced.

ShelbyTMItchell Nickeolodeon really did it with themselves in the 1990s when a "naughty" little show called Ren and Stimpy premiered as that would change the face of TV.John K really outdid himself. As the show changed the way that we look at cartoons. And how we got shows like South Park and Family Guy. These are not cartoons for little kids as one of the reviewers mentioned.Naught but funny, gross and abrasive, but clever. Ren the little nasty tempered chihulua and Stimpy the fat happy go lucky cat. Go beyond the thing called toilet humor.With help from a cast of other cartoon supporting players. And how the show nearly got kicked off of Nickeolodeon due to being nasty and gross. But it has since become a cult favorite for all generations that grew up with it and will begin to like it.Gross and nasty but funny and a riot at it's best.

jcs_stanley Ren and Stimpy is a show which apparently would set the stage for other gross, adult shows like Bevis and Butt-Head. The premise is that it focuses on the deranged, strange and mostly untamed exploits of Ren a crazed, lunatic Chihuahua with the donkey ears and his companion Stimpy a kind but half brain-dead, mucus picking, hairball-whiffing Manx feline and the other weird characters that inhabit their world e.g. Mr Horse, Muddy Mudskipper, Kolwaski, Circus Midgets. The show had a long and troubled history with it's broadcaster Nickelodion due to some of the content edging dangerously overboard into adult territory which is a shame because it is a really good show. Unlike other comedy shows R+S rarely used verbal jokes and resorted to more gross, visual gags and extreme close-ups but don't be put off by that. Because once you see their tales of Space Madness, Kity Litter, Rubber Nipples and Magic nose Goblins complete with limited continuity, you'll wish the train of Sickness would never end.
