Glucedee It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.
Joanna Mccarty Amazing worth wacthing. So good. Biased but well made with many good points.
Marva It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
ali-278-412957 Pointless ending, absolute waste of time. Too many loose ends, don't waste you time on this!!
con_au Knowing that this was a piece of Soderbergh experimentation, with a companion app allowing the viewer/player to do a 'choose your own adventure' plot line, I was intrigued to find out how the tv version would render with its forced plot line. The answer is - very very badly. Fans of Soderbergh's styling will be rewarded, but the limits of time and the impossibility to explore multiple plot directions hacks the screen version to bits, leaving gaping holes in the plot and character arcs. It's a shame - for my liking the production, script and performances were all on point. Soderbergh rarely gives us a hero, and it's hard to love or even care about some of the pivotal characters, especially the always watchable Sharon Stone in the role of a children's fiction writer (!!!), but there's enough levity and heart in the peripheral characters to have kept me invested. As other reviewers have noted, the conclusion won't satisfy many people. It didn't satisfy me. In fact, I presumed that there must be more episodes still to come. As anti-climaxes go, it's real heavy on the 'anti'. Plot threads and characters disappear. Improbable and inexplicable choices are made. It's rushed and messy and ultimately inconclusive. Unresolved endings leave you either dying to hook up with your mates to unravel the 'what ifs', or they leave you slack-jawed, shaking your fist at the telly as your eyes roll out of your head. I think most people will, sadly, end up in the latter category.
sywine This was a huge surprise; I had started watching inattentively, letting three recorded episodes play while I made party preparations. Somewhere along the line it occurred to me I should start over and pay attention. The structure is clever, which you won't notice until you're 2/3 of the way through, and you won't realize how incredible the acting is until you figure things out a bit. Devin Ratray's performance, initially very understated, BLEW MY MIND. The ensemble acting crackles and snaps. And the story just works. The subject material, about a rich cougar and the inevitable hang-abouts, could put people off but I know the sea- and ski crowd and this is an exceedingly accurate portrayal.
alexm-64443 Not bad and watchable but it never lifts off. The writing and editing stink. Much of the dialogue doesn't work; many of the actors aren't believable. The lead detective and the chief of police behave more like primary school teachers. than cops. Most of the acting is stiff. The two lawyers get it right but that's about it. Again, if you're stuck at home on a cold and rainy night this series will be better than poke in the eye with a sharp stick but that's about it. BTW, Slidell, LA is a suburb of New Orleans with all the regular suburban stuff: traffic, tract homes, strip centers. What were they thinking? They weren't
