BlazeLime Strong and Moving!
Freaktana A Major Disappointment
Afouotos Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.
Dirtylogy It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.
henryshear I myself am a teenager and I did not particularly like Runaways. I like the Marvel Netflix shows, but some of the teenagers are sulky for personal reasons that benefit the story, but everything is too melodramatic. The sulkiness translates to anger and they set up at least three separate love triangles, which is not a huge part of teenage life. They clearly set up for one of the girls to question her sexuality, but while it is great they are showing this, it detracts from the story. The Netflix shows get to plot right away and integrate love or motivations into the story so it is seamless. Runaways is slow on the draw, the first two episodes show the same day through the perspectives of the kids and the parents. I gave up quickly after that, but the best episodes of a season should be at the beginning in order to hook you in. The acting is not amazing, but that is entirely understandable from the teenagers. I did not like the parents' acting abilities. There is a central mystery, but the audience suspects that it has something to do with the parents somehow. I would not suggest this show for a few reasons. The show is far too slow, too many love triangles, and mediocre writing. Hulu is not in good shape if this is one of their most popular shows.
dedew-79125 I think as someone who didnt read the comics i dont expect anything from the series, so from my perspective the series is interesting at the beggining, it was cool because the kids have somekind of power and unique things of their ow, kinda cliche. But, i just dont feel the character is well played, they can do better than that. and too much drama going on.
sophiatoledo24 The show obviously is new and it won't follow the comics to a "T". I didn't really mind the slow pace it had because it was introducing characters and their backstory. Of course there were certain parts that I wish they talked about more. I also think the show will have new viewers looking at the comics. Although, I usually read the book/comic before a movie/show comes out. It seems like 'newer' generations watch things then read about after. Also there are a whole bunch of people who make a show, so they had to change some things around like adding "Jonah" etc... But overall, the show is not bad. Plus this is the first season and they don't actually "runaway" until the last episode. I'm sure they will explore more into that when the second season comes out. Just give it a chance.
Kira Kent Okay, so I'm a big fan of Marvel, have been for years. I heard of this show on facebook and because hey James Marsters was going to be in it and thought "Awesome!" and I watched the preview and I thought this was going to be so cool, and I thought wrong. I only watched half of the premiere because honestly it was tiring, depressing, boring, nothing happening whatsoever. An hour in, when something finally did happen, it was the scene I had already seen in the preview so it was no big shocker. I get it's supposed to be a drama, but for the love of God, would it kill someone to crack a joke? Say anything to make me enjoy the grieving yawn fest? We enter the show into these characters lives where they're all dealing with some kind of issue that's not really explained, we see moping and absolutely nothing happening. There's a little hint of mystery, but not enough to make me stick around... and just man, it's so darn serious, smile already. It really doesn't make a good first impression and probably, judging by the amount of iffy reviews on here, doesn't make a good last impression either. I'd say don't waste your time, it's not what it appears to be and it feels very poorly made too.And to quote my favourite director with some advice they should take, "Make it dark, make it grim, make it tough, but then, for the love of God, tell a joke." -Joss Whedon
