Moustroll Good movie but grossly overrated
Intcatinfo A Masterpiece!
Taha Avalos The best films of this genre always show a path and provide a takeaway for being a better person.
Rosie Searle It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
andynapleton I went into this blind without having looked at any reviews, however I had recently finished watching season 1 of Mindhunter. This is where the problems begin. As a piece of entertainment Manhunt is engaging and at times thrilling. Paul Bettany does a decent job as the criminal mastermind however the relationship between himself and Sam Worthington is entirely unbelievable. Worthington has 1 face in every film and one style of delivering his lines which makes every part he's ever played identically dull. It also brings up the believability that he is a hotshot profiler and sadly, I'm reminded of Meg Ryan as a helicopter pilot. If the role had been given to someone who had a bit more personality and acting diversity then the series would have been far easier to stay on board with. Finally, the way that the series is shot is incredibly flat. If you take a series like Mindhunter which is similarly styalised why is everything so underexposed? Each character is poorly lit and questionably framed, but then again that's just a personal gripe.Bottom line: Bettany is good, Worthington is boring, watch Mindhunter instead.
Uatu the movie watcher "Manhunt: Unabomber" is by no means a bad show, it just doesn't stand up to the ever increasing competition. The problem is that the series is too true to reality to be surprising and thrilling to anyone who has followed/studied the actual unabomber case (as I have). Yet at the same time it deviates too much from reality to be considered a high budget cinematic documentary series like "Wormwood".And the time jumping will destroy any thrills even for the people who haven't followed the case and are new to the Unabomber story. Because how is anyone supposed to get all exited and railed up about a manhunt, when in the next scene we see he's already been caught? Isn't the exciting part of a manhunt finally seeing the face of the evil genius/sick psychopath which has haunted society for so long? For me "Manhunt:Unabomber" seems like a series which can't decide whether it wants to be a documentary or a gripping crime drama and ultimately fails at being either. That having been said the acting and atmosphere are spot on and the story is interesting despite the lack of adrenaline.
SnoopyStyle In 1995, Jim 'Fitz' Fitzgerald (Sam Worthington) is brought in to write a profile for the Unabomber. Team leader Don Ackerman (Chris Noth) commands him to regurgitate their established profile. Fitz started as a beat cop dealing with graffiti and studied night school to graduate in the new field of Behavioral Science in the FBI. He recruits comparative linguistics professor Natalie Rogers (Lynn Collins). In 1997, Ted Kaczynski (Paul Bettany) had been captured and Fitz turned into a recluse after solving the case. Due to Kaczynski's demands, Fitz is called back in.This is the best work ever from Sam Worthington. That may not be saying a lot since I haven't cared for him right from Avatar. He's gained a bit more in his range and he fits this role a little better. He's not really the classic hero that his movies kept trying to make him. There is something needy about him and this role takes advantage of that. As for Bettany, he veers off from who I thought Kaczynski was although as shown in the series, even his iconic sketch is not him. That takes me to accuracy or lack thereof. This is fictionalized history. There are obvious moments of dramatization and simplification. Nevertheless, it does add to my understanding of the story. I do question trying to make Kaczynski too sympathetic. It's the one aspect of the show about which I have the most concern. It's dangerous unlike making Fitz, a man alone against the world. That comes with no real danger. Overall, this is compelling crime drama and surprisingly thrilling at times. It is engrossing all the way to the end.
fateema-64564 The only redeeming grace for this series is that a) the real Manhunt story wasn't overly tampered with. They actually did a great job of depicting an accurate "general" version of the real life accounts from the UNA-bomber case "mostly" and b) The performances were OK, I didn't have any issue with most of the acting. I thought the actors did pretty well in delivering their lines and portraying their roles. Because, of these two crucial points I have bumped up my rating from what could have been a four star rating to a 6 instead. It would have been pretty harsh to give this anything under a 6 at this point. However, I couldn't bring myself to raise it above that either. Aside from the acting and the portrayal there really isn't much going on in this TV show. If anything it is quite BORING for a show that's supposed to depict the craziest Man HUNT in the history of the USA. This show had a LOT to offer, it was meant to be a thriller but that was severely lacking. The plot takes part during a 2 year interval 95-97. The year 95 is where the majority of the events take place, I found the back and forth jump shots confusing and frankly uncalled for. I wish they had stuck to one timeline and allowed things to take fold naturally instead. Most of the earlier episodes were a snooze fest, I have to say that the show does pick up at the 5th episode or so but by then you only have 2 more episodes left and the series ends.
