Synopsis

First Wave is a Canadian/American science fiction television series, filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, that aired from 1998 to 2001 on the Sci-Fi Channel. The show was created by Chris Brancato, who co-wrote an early version of the script for the seminal X-Files episode "Eve". Francis Ford Coppola was executive producer on the show. In an unusual move, the Sci-Fi Channel picked up the series on a 66-episode contract. The show was subsequently canceled once the contract expired at the end of the third season due to disappointing ratings.

Dotbankey A lot of fun.
Baseshment I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
TombRaider09 It is only fair to compare this alien conspiracy show to the 'X Files', which had peaked as a cultural phenomenon right around the time the 'First Wave' series made its debut on the now-called Syfy cable network. But what X Files had was not only its alien mythology, but two strong leads who became as big, if not bigger cultural icons than the show itself. This show, however, has all the plot twists and the campy side tones of an X Files episode, but its weak lead keeps the show from truly taking off. This is not to say that the thief-turned security expert (now there's a career makeover!) doesn't have any edge or character, rather he pales too much in comparison to the (in)famous FBI agent Mulder, and let's be honest here: it's Fox Mulder you'll be comparing him to, whether you want to or not. There's no reason to skip watching the pilot, it is still entertaining and may even add value to the X Files experience - First Wave is like the illegitimate son of the X Files, who bears all the family traits.
Roedy Green I love this show, but I am embarrassed to tell any of my friends how much I like it. The key surely is Sebastian Spence, too handsome for a human to be, with a breathy voice that makes my heart leap every time he says a word. He is for me what "Elvis" was for so many. The premise is too silly for words. It is not even explainable. At least the writers acknowledge that as Cade vainly tries to convince people he is not a raving nutter. The plots are delightfully convoluted. There is plenty of emotional intensity. The episode with the rooms that could control emotions was so disturbing I had to turn it off. The episode about the doctors who take over a hospital was perhaps the scariest drama I have seen in years. I feel a bit like a kid biting my nails about the safety of the hero. It does so often look as if he is done for this time.I just wish Cade were not so unambiguously heterosexual.Perhaps what I appreciate most about this is Cade does not triumph over the evil aliens; at best he just scrapes by. I am glad to see the lack of species jingoism.
DebraHoney I just found "First Wave" and I gotta say, WOW, am I ticked off.As an avid TV watcher, and a Sci-Fi fanatic, I have no idea how this got past my sci-dar.At least SciFi has seen fit to start it up again - and thank goodness for my DVR so I can tape all episodes. This series absolutely rocks. It doesn't rely on the oh-so-well-used computer aided nonsense, rather it's a well written, edge-of-your-seat grip-something-really-tight adventure, a thinking person's program.Again, how this got by me when it was in production and on-air has me not only perturbed but confused - to say they needed better press is the understatement of the last and present century. If anyone with any juice at all reads this blurb, hey. Get on it. Get this program back into production with the original cast, please.Oh - and get a better ad agency or press personnel group or something - your last one did a poor job - especially to miss someone as into this genre as me.DebraHoney@aol.com
lonewolf89 I loved this show! Eddie and Cade were great together, an interesting match up. The plot was excellent, and the episodes were believable. Joshua was a cool character. He good as a bad guy and a good guy. Jordan was the only person that I didn't like, she got on my nerves. Over all, First Wave is great, definitely worth watching.
