Synopsis

Many lawyers consider themselves prophets, but Eli Stone may be the real deal. Eli has built a successful career at a top law firm in San Francisco representing only the biggest and richest corporations that make a habit of screwing over the little guy. But after experiencing a series of odd hallucinations, Eli seeks to find a deeper meaning to life while trying not to lose his job and destroy his relationship with the bosses' daughter. When Eli discovers an aneurysm in his brain, he wonders if his condition is truly medical or if perhaps he now has a higher calling.

Baseshment I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
Doomtomylo a film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.
markallankaplan There have been many wonderful television shows dealing with transpersonal themes over the years, including "The Twilight Zone" (Alternate Realities), "Quantum Leap" (Time Travel), "The X-Files" (Alien Encounters), "Touched by an Angel" (Angels), and "Joan of Arcadia" (Divine Guidance). These types of shows also appear to be growing in number recently with several superb transpersonal television shows showering the television airways within the past few years, including: "Lost" (Metaphysical Realities), "Life" (Zen), "Life on Mars" (Time Travel), "The Event" and "V" (Alien Encounters), "Heroes," "Kyle- XY," "Chuck," "No Ordinary Family," and "Fringe" (Exceptional Human Capacities), "Legend of the Seeker," "Merlin" and "Camelot" (Magic and Alchemy), and "Eli Stone" (Divine Guidance). While all of these shows are excellent transpersonal television journeys, I believe "Eli Stone" must be singled out as one of televisions transpersonal masterpieces. The reason I believe "Eli Stone" deserves this mantle, is that it not only explores a transpersonal topic with great depth, grace, wit, and integrity, it also has the capacity to give the viewing audience a powerful experience of higher and illusive states of being. How often does a TV show induce a deep sense of grace, hope and faith in the face of life's haunting mysteries? This is very rare...so I say, BRAVO to the creators of "Eli Stone!" But I also have to give a big BOO to the network (ABC) who never gave the show the chance it deserved and canceled this gem of television enlightentainment. Luckily we have the first and second season of this gem on DVD.
ThatDoesntMatter Having watched all episodes belatedly, I can see why they canceled this show.It was nowhere in particular (except for some of the relationship story lines) and didn't seem to be going anywhere. It did not know what it wanted to be, characters behaving unbelievingly, more drama towards the end, the comedy off sometimes given the topic, no real commitment of the main character (to anything, really). Too many half-baked ideas and characters, only the acting was mostly well done (indeed :-))For me, it is probably too American, too moralistic, though, as an atheist, I could look over all the faith and god stuff most of the time because it was presented in a liberal way. The prophet thing was a bit much, I just can't see what having visions of the future necessarily has to do with god...hello??? Sometimes he could alter the future, sometimes not, sometimes it turned out totally differently, but Dad was always right? An insult to my intelligence a lot of the time. Why does he think his TV would crash for real?? Please! I mean, I like the underdog winning and putting up a flag for more compassion in law and business, but less sap would have done the job as well. And the acupuncture stunts were over the top, hey, I actually think it is good medicine, not a fast track to visions or revisiting memories...I like fiction, but not too much in one pot. It just didn't gel well...lol, though I actually do believe that vaccines can cause autism (among other things)...!!! And have done so long before this show - read up first, guys! Okay, the good things: I loved the acting (even Natascha Henstridge grew on me towards the end, in my opinion she has limited acting abilities - no offense-, plus she was miscast as the first love interest (either that or JLM was miscast, and that would be inconceivable - to quote a favourite movie of mine...:-)) Especially the brother relationship was great, and the Victor Garber character, plus Sam Jaeger and of course Loretta Divine (lol, the name...!) What is totally unconvincing is the not dealing with the fatal illness part...hello??? Big chance for realness lost there - I've got nothing against lightness, but that was just badly done ( no " ~ indeed!" here, totally different league where that quote comes from!:-)) Maybe I've seen too many really good shows, I dunno, this just did not deliver in all points - too many love interests for a dying guy, for some reason not going with the one that worked (and was fun!!!), too little explanations, too little communication (until the last episodes, yeah, but by then it was too late...), too little coherence in routes of action.Somebody asked if this is a religious show - I guess I would say so now, and I could have done without that, but maybe the sponsors at ABC couldn't? ;-)I liked watching it, got bored by too much god stuff (and too much George Michael), got annoyed at the missing structure, and am off to watch Emma again and revel in British accents!!!:-)))
luvwiteh20 I seriously can NOT believe that ABC has made the WRONG choice to cancel this show, Eli Stone. They are willing to keep smut and soap operas, but when it comes to a show that has taste, talent, excitement, clean living and DECENCY, they look the other way! Can someone PLEASE explain the logic in this Disastrous move? I am at the point where I can seriously choose to no longer watch ABC all together. I have already stopped watching the news, and now THIS? If another network is smart, they will pick up this show and FAST! What's next? Will ABC bring on the Jerry Springer show? I AM DISGUSTED!!! Is there any decency left in this world?
Adelina N What makes this show so touching and exciting? I think first of all it's the incredible story that catches attention. I wonder where they get all these ideas about his visions, but everything looks so structured and right. The second thing is of course cast members. Johny Lee Miller is superb in the title role. He makes me cry and laugh. His character is amazingly written! Then it's Victor Garber who's just great! I love him singing in Eli's visions as he has good voice and he is so funny. The topics for each episode are unique and important. Not to mention that they are all actual. I guess it means a lot for a show that it is watched not only in America or Europe but also in Central Asia. I love this show and hope there will be more seasons as I don't want to say "goodbye" to Eli!
