Synopsis

The story is set in the distant future. The land is ruined, and humanity establishes the mobile fort city Plantation. Pilots produced inside Plantation live in Mistilteinn, also know as the "birdcage." Children live there knowing nothing of the outside world or the freedom of the sky. Their lives consist of battling to carry out missions. Their enemies are mysterious giant lifeforms known as Kyouryuu, and the children pilot robots called Franxx to face off against them. For the children, riding the Franxx proves their existence. A boy named Hiro is called Code:016, and he was once known as a prodigy. However, he has fallen behind, and his existence seems unnecessary. Not piloting a Franxx is the same as ceasing to exist. One day, a mysterious girl known as "Zero Two" appears before him. Two horns grow out of her head.

Steineded How sad is this?
SpunkySelfTwitter It’s an especially fun movie from a director and cast who are clearly having a good time allowing themselves to let loose.
Kidskycom It's funny watching the elements come together in this complicated scam. On one hand, the set-up isn't quite as complex as it seems, but there's an easy sense of fun in every exchange.
Caryl It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties. It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.
concussion909 Darling in the FRANXX is honestly from what I have seen so far the best anime of 2018 and a real breath of fresh air in creative writing and in storytelling throughout the anime genre. The characters were full of questions about life and they felt like actual individuals with real emotions, even if some people see some of the characters as never fully developed. However, the development was real, and even shockingly life like in the sense that there are things in life we will never know, and never expect, things will blindside you, you will be caught off guard.Darling in the FRANXX makes use of heavy themes about individuality, life, purpose, as well as an ongoing analogy about the "Jian" bird and the love between our two main characters to progress an intertwined plot forward. To top everything, all of this is composed of some of the most stunning moving soundtracks and music Studio Trigger and A-1 Pictures has to offer.I'm saddened that this anime received a lot of backlash with its ending, being called rushed, lacking, or full of sloppy writing with its conclusion. When what it was, was a truly new story daring to challenge established writing techniques while still holding to classic things we love. And darling did it so well that people debated over it for months. You as the viewer, your emotions were meant to be struck, people were supposed to be confused, that was the point. With everyone's ideals for the show tossed aside, the conclusion feels right for the story and the characters development as a whole, which is what Darling was all about. I hope to see more if they ever continue the show, if not. then where we left off should hopefully leave it as a classic, people should remember Darling in the FRANXX for its beauty, and I know I will.
crusaderf Honestly, recently there haven't been many anime's that have caught my eye that have not been directly pulled from a manga or light novel, but then I came across this gem. aside from the slight hesitation due to the way they pilot the mechs, this anime has drawn me in so that i'm tuning on within 10 minutes of it's new episode every week. The animation and graphics are amazing, and the fight scenes draw you in, but the thing I like most is the interpersonal drama and relationships between the characters. There was more than one scene that made me start to tear up and I could feel the emotions of the characters. If I had to compare this to another anime, I'd say the setting and the fight scenes are similar to Gurren Laggan, while the drama is similar to Spice and Wolf, in that it is as intense as Spice and Wolf, but with a little more focus on the web of connections between characters, not just 2 of them, while it does an excellent job displaying the fact that these pilots are not hardened adults, but growing teens with their own issues of relationships and learning the truth about the world and themselves. and this anime made me tear up ad much as Plastic Memories due to all the gripping drama scenes.
lordspineripper This story is bringing back feelings from one of my most loved anime's "wolf and spice" if you have never seen wolf and spice i can not recommend a better show but i do warn you. you will have to get the books after watching it, as on the last episode you will want more and the books give the show a much deserved closer. this show not even done with the story is already in my top ten.
