Synopsis

Damages is an American legal thriller television series created by the writing and production trio of Daniel Zelman and brothers Glenn and Todd A. Kessler. The plot revolves around the brilliant, ruthless lawyer Patty Hewes and her protégée, recent law school graduate Ellen Parsons. Each season features a major case that Hewes and her firm take on, while also examining a chapter of the complicated relationship between Ellen and Patty. The first two seasons center around the law firm Hewes & Associates. Later seasons center more on Patty and Ellen's relationship as Ellen begins to distance herself from Hewes & Associates and begins an independent career.

Reviews

Diagonaldi Very well executed
ShangLuda Admirable film.
Lucia Ayala It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.
Maleeha Vincent It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.
thebeez53 Just like Dexter, which I loved for much of its run, I truly loved Damages for the first three seasons. Stayed with it, and was disgusted with the ending. So absolutely no comeuppance for Patty Hewes. As Gordon Gekko uttered "greed is good" and so must be evil. She is its personification, and there she is, dressed similarly to Cruella DeVille at the very end. The only thing that may have been a disappointment is that she doesn't appear to be on The Supreme Court. And just like Dexter, a good show was ruined in the later years. I hate that I have "stick to itiveness". Should have quit after Season 3.
sallyann627 This show is gripping and well written, but I am watching Season 4 and groaning with how inaccurate Hollywood's understanding is of government contracting work. I am so tired of the portrayal of these companies as all being evil profiteers and what is especially annoying is the lack of research the writers did. In the script John Goodman's character says 'we're not the military; there is no death pay'. That is bullshit. The Dept of Labor requires Defense Base Act Work Comp benefits for all private contractors working for any US government agency and the benefits are extremely generous, much more than regular US Work Comp. The real criticism about these types of companies should go to the US Government itself who starts meaningless wars and puts out these contracts to hire private firms to do the operations, maintenance and security -all things they do NOT have soldiers doing ever. I believe we should end these wars and send our soldiers home. For those against private firms who can act unethically well blame the government for fostering this environment in the first place. Guess I'm skipping ahead to Season 5.
Frank Klein 4th Everything about this series was the best possible, BUT I hate the moral of the story. Essentially, no one at all may be trusted. I counted up the actors on this series, and looked at the ratio of them that made unethical decisions, and it was greater than 87%. If the world actually functioned as depicted, we would be in much graver trouble. This makes for very unexpected twists, and unique stories (which I thoroughly enjoy usually), but if production companies should be responsible for more than just the entertainment value of their productions, than I think they fell slightly short here. I would have given this story a full ten otherwise, as it is very stimulating and suspenseful to watch. The actors and acting were all top rate, and I really have nothing else negative to state. Well, one minor thing: I don't like unrealistic events in shows I watch, such as when someone dies after another turns their neck a quarter turn, or when a car explodes because someone ignites a small piece of paper on fire going into the tank port. But, I have come to expect this from even the greatest productions. If you think that the moral, "One must incorporate evil to fight evil," is acceptable or of little consequence, then you won't mind this factor. Please don't downgrade this merely due to it not being a full review, as I stated so in the heading. I believe many interested in watching this series would like to know this facet, as I found it very important. I watched every episode and even from season to season kept waiting for good to prevail over all of the evil, but to no avail.)
artpf A law school graduate becomes the protégée of a successful high-stakes litigator.Given the largely positive reviews for this show, I was looking forward to seeing it.What I found was a derivative piece of garbage that uses shock value (swear words included) in place of good writing.Plus, to add insult to injury, Glen Close is exceedingly harsh to look at. Her face is pulled back so tightly you almost think she's got a knot of skin tightly wound under what is clearly a hair weave. The only positive I could illicit is that it's shot well, the costuming is kewl and it moves fast. Thanks be to God!
