bruce-129 I was hunting around for something to watch and happened upon "Casual" on Hulu. After watching a bit of it I was perplexed and the first episodes of the first season are comparatively tame.Seriously, I have the freshness and uniqueness of the show and the real and sometimes very uncomfortable feelings this show can elicit."Casual" is the story of a brother(Alex) and a sister(Valerie) and their often too close relationship, and messed up boundaries, in their dysfunctional family, including some very peculiar parents. Valerie's irritating daughter, Laura, also adds suspense and uncertainty to the show.Other characters such a Jack (Valerie's sex addict BF), Leon ( Alex's best friend), Leia (Leon's delightful GF and Rae (Alex's room renting occasional hookup.The show tends to focus on the things people do to drive themselves and others crazy ... it's hilarious ... I love it. Even though there are times when it kind of makes me mad or turns my stomach.This last season, so far, season 3, has really gone out there, and I am wondering if anyone is left watching? I see very few to no comments on this show in the chat boards.All three of the main characters have let their bad sides show, so maybe this show is a test if you can do that and maintain a fan base to a show that can turn fairly negative fairly quickly. I'll keep watching if only to see where these new writers will head next. Until then I will continue to rate "Casual" at 10/10 because they are working in new territory and doing a great job.So, love the show and while I hope they keep it up for as long as they can, I would appreciate if just maybe they would tone it down so as to not alienate possible fans ... this is good stuff if you do not get put off and are a bit persistent.

lunga Casual stars Michaela Watkins and Tommy Dewey as Valerie and Alex, two adult siblings and Tara Lynne Barr as Valarie's daughter. All three actors are excellent in their respective roles and the writing is top notch. What I think is throwing some off, myself included, is the fact that the characters are not that nice. They are selfish, sometimes arrogant, and superficial, but along the way, we learn to forgive them because they are so damaged. Explanation of plot and characters would be irrelevant as it is a multi story-line arc, so just watch the show.

Leah Zapp People who live cookie cutter lives will most likely automatically dislike this show. Life gets messy and Casual is a perfect representation of how life can become complicated and hard to understand. People who are giving this show bad reviews almost all have one thing in common to say: life isn't actually like this, these characters are crazy. I highly appreciate the abnormal chaos depicted in Casual and hope for many more seasons to come. It's fresh, unique, and highly relatable. The humor is dark and the characters Valerie (Michaela Watkins) and Laura Meyers (Tara Lynne Barr) perfectly portray the reality of how strained mother-daughter relationships can be. Laura is a blunt and cynical teenager and Valerie is a somewhat self-absorbed yet loving mother. Alex Cole (Tommy Dewey), brother to Valerie, offers his home to Valerie and Laura after Valerie divorces her husband because of his infidelity. The three of them living together creates an interesting and captivating dynamic. If you like dark humor and quirky characters mixed with an anarchic plot line, I'd suggest giving this show a go.

When a series is labeled as comedy, people would expect laughs, and they get disappointed when they do not find them. That is one of the main reasons why 'Shameless' is one of the most underrated shows ever. My point is, just because a series has a few funny moments, it does not mean it should be labeled or categorized as comedy.'Casual' is one of the best drama series I have encountered within the past few years. It is very well written and acted. The story develops slowly but steadily, and towards the end of the season, you become hooked.It portrays the characters' struggle with life and change in a very real manner. The recently divorced mother's struggle to fit in the world as a divorcée, who had missed on life because she got married and had a kid at an early age. The successful yet unhappy man who created an algorithm for people to find their perfect matches, yet his own system fails to find him a match when he creates a profile as his real self. The sexually active teenager girl who would do anything to get the attention of the older teacher she is in love with.The lead actors Michaela Watkins and Tommy Dewey deliver raw and brilliant performances. When Eliza Coupe joined the cast, I felt she had completed the brilliance trinity. I really, really hope she comes back for the second season and becomes a regular on the show. She is one of the actresses that I really enjoy watching. I can say the same thing about Michaela and Tommy now that I have seen them in casual.To sum up, 'Casual' is my favorite kind of drama that tingles your emotions.
