Synopsis

Babylon 5 is a five-mile long space station located in neutral space. Built by the Earth Alliance in the 2250s, its goal is to maintain peace among the various alien races by providing a sanctuary where grievances and negotiations can be worked out among duly appointed ambassadors. A council made up of representatives from the five major space-faring civilizations - the Earth Alliance, Minbari Federation, Centauri Republic, Narn Regime, and Vorlon Empire - work with the League of Non-Aligned Worlds to keep interstellar relations under control. Aside from its diplomatic function, Babylon 5 also serves as a military post for Earth and a port of call for travelers, traders, businessmen, criminals, and Rangers.

Reviews

Dynamixor The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
Glucedee It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.
Derry Herrera Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.
Kimball Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
jwflight Just into the first season, and I'm already surprised by the politics that didn't make an impression on me when the series first came out. Earth being made the center of the universe again...anti-alien sentiment. Really hits home in 2018.
bheadher Yes folks, a die hard Star Trek cultist said it...Babylon 5 was a series for the ages. I watched every episode, every week, and could not get enough...it isn't easy for a Star Trek cultist to say, but I have to say B5 was superbly thought out, and the production was meticulous...I am seriously depressed that the show was buried after production ceased, and never allowed to be syndicated. But miracles do happen. I am watching the entire series on Amazon Prime...
d-57751 I can not stress enough how excellent this show is. The plot is intricate, sprawling, and interconnected. It is the perfect example of the difference between "complicated" and "Complex". The characters are realistic, and well-developed. The world it creates is equally complex. This work will linger in your dreams and thoughts, the world and its inhabitants so well-drawn that they will simply refuse to leave. And of course, one can never overstate the truly immense talents of the actors. Every actor, even the bit parts, gave it their all, and the main cast really grew into their characters. For me, Boxleitner will always be Sheriden, any other name simply refuses to stick. Londo and G'Khar have such chemistry, both comedic and dramatic, that their interweaving subplots are truly the highlight of this already marvelous work of art. From an artistic standpoint, this is quite possibly the pinnacle of television, nay, of fiction. The dialogue is distinct and consistent for each character, and is perfectly written. Every word and every line is important, either for adding into the main plot, or in simply fleshing out the setting and the characters. The dialogue is worthy of Begin the subject of study in school. The story is amazing, perfectly integrating both the classic epic space-opera elements and the more mundane interpersonal struggles of the large and varied cast, perfectly blending the sweeping epic with the highs and lows of the human condition. The story includes deep exploration of deep, timeless themes, like the conflict between devotion to your country and to your own ideals, the role of religion in society, the nature of free will, the all- too-timely and eerily prescient, themes in a certain season-three- and-four story arc (Fans will know what I am talking about). THesea, and countless more, are woven into an already massive story, being present and central without being preachy of over-the-head.There have been complaints that the effect's have not aged well, but I beg to differ. While the outer-space and ship-battle scenes are clearly product of the time, they are still good, and fit perfectly with the feel of the work as a whole.INside, it is another matter entirely, relying on a very limited CG combined with some of the best make-up and prosthetic i have ever seen. Indeed, I have personally always preferred practical effects, though unfortunately they had become a lost art even prior to my birth. Indeed, many of the interior scenes arguably look better than any modern day CG- extravaganza. In short, this work is perhaps the apex of television, indeed, the apotheosis of the entire principle of storytelling. Its world is larger, more detailed, and more engrossing than any save perhaps Tolkien. Its characters are more memorable than a Shakespearean hero or or villain, and more realistic than many heroes of more modern literature. ITs acting and writing are on-par with some of the greatest classics of cinema. As a narrative, it is perhaps the best ever, and as a guide for ethics and morals it surpasses potentially even the Bible. IT is, in every possible sense, a masterpiece of unparalleled proportion, unmatched by any other work of fiction before or after it. Highest possible recommendations for anyone, whether they like science fiction or or not.
WeLikeTVScreen After the first 8 episodes of viewing i was not that impressed. No storyline in the show seemed to catch my interest and some of the characters were not to my liking. Garabaldi for example i found to be simply ridiculous and played really bad by Jerry Doyle. Londo was to much of a comical character for my liking and i immediately disliked him for that. The main character Commander Sinclair was also a rubbish character played badly. Luckily i knew when watching that the lead role would later be replaced and played by Bruce Boxleitner who usually is a good actor.(I also knew that Melissa Gilbert would be in a couple of episodes and i looked forward to that)Susan Ivanova was a good character so far in but i didn't always like how the actress Claudia Christian chose to act out the scenes. G'Kar was very good and well played and i looked forward to more story lines involving him. Also Delenn played by Mira Furlan was very good and probably so far in my favorite character. :)One thing i immediately liked about Babylon 5 is that they have experimented more with the appearance of aliens than many other sci-fi series who often portray aliens as basically humans with a few bumps on the forehead or with a different shaped nose. After watching a few episodes i wished for development of the characters and for some better story lines. I also hoped that it would be a bit brighter. And i mean literally. I felt like that space station didn't had any lights. When reaching the mid of season 2 certain things had become just as i though. Things picked up a bit when Boxleitner took over the lead role.Londo, who i disliked from the start had i my opinion became a more serious character which was good but at the same time Delenn, who i really liked was now almost the comical character. She still had serious story lines but i didn't like at all that they changed her. She's also changed appearance and i didn't care at all for her more human look. One really good thing about the show is Walter Koenig's very interesting role. Unfortunately at this stage he's not nearly in as many episodes as one would wish for.The episodes in season 2 are alright at best i'd say. Good enough to watch but not good enough to watch a second time. When reaching the end of the show i must use the word roller-coaster to describe the quality. I'm glad to say that Walter Koenig's character became a recurring one and he is brilliant all the way through. The storyline about the war between the Centauri and the Narns was great! The characters stepped up and those stupid comic moments were finally gone. And i even started to like Londo who was from the beginning a comical character. Some of the shows best scenes was during this era of the series and involved Londo.I think i'm going against the flow a bit when i say that during the second part of season 4 when the storyline was about earth civil war was the most boring episodes of all. I could hardly get through them. But during the last season the show really picked up. Season 5 is really good and the characters seems to finally at that point be in the right places. Londo is now one of the best and most interesting ones. G'kar is very important again for the story (he was almost forgotten during last half of season 4)Overall i would say that many of the episodes (especially half of season 4) are totally over rated and once is definitely enough times to watch them.Season 5 is absolutely the best part of this series surprisingly considering and also the first half of season 4.So...Roller-coaster.(Silly observation)All the way through the series they totally over use the terms "I Repeat" or "I say again" Feels sometimes like they say that in each and every line.
