Redwarmin This movie is the proof that the world is becoming a sick and dumb place
Btexxamar I like Black Panther, but I didn't like this movie.
Humbersi The first must-see film of the year.
Matho The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.
SnoopyStyle Iris (Brittany Snow) has returned home to care for her younger brother who has cancer. Dr. Barden offers her an opportunity. He invites her to the Lambrick estate to join others in playing a game for its wealthy benefactors. There is surprisingly little tension in the game playing. The premise is heavy-handed. It starts from the beginning. The brother should be younger which would make her plight more compelling. Barden should be more secretive about the game. In fact, she should suspect that it's a sex for treatment trade. At least, that would be a shocking twist. Once the game starts, there is little tension. The main reason is that the participants don't actually have real choices. They have no agency. Shockingly, there is a good escape attempt which is the only tense situation. Anyways, two minutes is not a long time and it's doubtful that the men wouldn't do it. The premise is an intriguing idea but a moral dilemma does not always translate cinematically. One is more likely to be bored by this.
Dan Packer This film centres around Iris (Brittany Snow), a young girl trying to make ends meet whilst looking after her brother who is in deteriorating health . Expensive medical bills and the struggle of finding well paying work finds Iris accepting an invitation by an ominous, well dressed man with deep pockets (Jeffrey Combs) for the promise of a chance to get her brother the medical help that he needs, providing she attends a dinner party and takes place in some sort of competition. Would You Rather takes a children's game and adds to it an interesting spin. Run by the head of a wealthy family, people must make the choices of their lives in a limited time for the promise of receiving life altering money... If they can be the last one's standing. Iris must make time sensitive choices under gruelling conditions if she is to survive and help her brother. This film brings with it an interesting look into the human mind and the choices that people make whilst under duress, taking into account values, morals, and the basic human instinct to survive.
gwnightscream This 2012 thriller stars Brittany Snow, Jeffrey Combs and Logan Miller. Snow (Pitch Perfect) plays Iris, a young woman who is trying to make ends meet and taking care of her ill brother, Raleigh (Miller) who needs a bone-marrow transplant. Combs (Re-Animator) plays Lambrick, a doctor/specialist who offers to help her by inviting her to his mansion along with 7 others to play a sinister game, "Would You Rather?" where the winner will be given a great sum of money. This film sort of mixes torture elements of "Hostel," "Saw" & "House on Haunted Hill" which starts off ok, but goes downhill turning depressing. Snow & Combs aren't bad in it and I'd only give this a try if you're into horror/thriller flicks.
longcooljolie This movie has been on Netflix, where I have watched it at least five times because I really appreciate well-done shocker movies. The major factor setting this one apart from similar movies is the acting. In the genre it's really easy to lapse into over-the-top histrionics or fall into clichés of the genre, which are too numerous to mention and for readers of this review, you probably know what they are anyway. It's an ensemble cast of eight people who show up at a mysterious dinner given by an extremely wealthy man who offers promises of financial help if they are willing to take part in a "game." That premise alone would normally send up glaring red flags, but it's clear that all the dinner guests are taken in by the host's (skillfully portrayed by Jeffrey Combs) polite and convivial manner. While it is an ensemble cast, the script and cinematography benefit from being told through a desperate young woman's eyes (Iris, portrayed by Brittany Snow). Early in the movie we learn that she is desperately looking for a job to aid her in helping care for her critically ill brother. The other seven dinner guests are painted in broad strokes, but after all it is a 90 minute movie, and the bulldog-ish butler, Bevans, also comes to the fore in a big way as the action progresses. There are enough twists and turns to make the story even more compelling and when the "game" starts after a luscious dinner, the plot gets cranking. The movie's only shortcoming, at least to me, was the generic musical score. Maybe after getting decent actors and making sure the cinematography was good, they only had enough money to hire somebody with a Casio organ and told him or her, just make it sound spooky. Of course, this is very minor and "Would you Rather," which has been unfairly dismissed as a "Saw" ripoff or torture porn, is actually a must-see for any horror fan.
