Taraparain Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.
BelSports This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Billy Ollie Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
Paul Magne Haakonsen "Wolf Warrior 2" (aka "Zhan lang II") was definitely an action movie with a capital A.But that was also the entire extend of what the movie could manage. The storyline was incredibly flaccid and stereotypical if there ever was one in the action genre. And it didn't really help the movie one bit that the characters were every bit as pointless as the storyline and plot. That just made you have no care about the characters in the movie. My rating of five out of ten stars is based solely on the action and fighting in the movie, as there was absolutely nothing else to have here. This is not one of the most impressive or memorable action movies to come from the Asian cinema, and I can't really claim that having seen most of this movie has inspired me to go to watch the first movie. I gave up about an hour into the ordeal that is "Wolf Warrior 2". I just gave up from utter boredom, and I have no intention of returning to watch the rest of it.Actions movies should at least have something to keep the audience in aside from only action sequences...
paulclaassen Although Jing Wu is an accomplished actor, this is only his second film in the director's chair (first being Wolf Warrior). It is hard to believe an actor with so little directorial experience could make a film of this caliber. This is hands down my favorite Chinese film and also one of my all-time favorite action films. It is captivating just as it is visually stunning. From the impressive opening scene to the fantastic climax, the action and suspense grabs a hold of you and doesn't let go. The film was simply spectacular and an absolute viewing pleasure. The action sequences are incredible and fast-paced. The film features awesome music, too, and the clever use of 'Amazing Grace' gave me gooseflesh!
Maynard Handley It amazes me that so many people are criticizing the "politics" of this movie -- this is basically a Chinese version of Rambo. We have essentially the same setup -- hero tortured by his past, but trained to be a killing machine, wants to be left in peace but, damnit, people need him to protect them from the bad guys. Which he goes about doing with crazy efficiency...So how well does it work? The action is somewhat more amateurish than in a big-budget US movie, though some might consider that a stylistic choice. It's very much in the martial arts tradition of one guy defeating an army because they have the courtesy to only shoot at him one at a time. It's certainly not a mind-stretcher.On the other hand if you're watching (like I was) to get your heart racing while you exercise, it's just the ticket, with excitement for pretty much 90% of the screen time.
ottawa_scuba_monkey I had heard that this movie had rave reviews. It's one of the saddest and most brutal portrayals of Africans and Africa I've ever seen. What a mess; between the poor writing and the poor acting, it seemed like the longest 2 hours of my life. There appears to be no plot; other than people are continuously getting killed in vivid technicolor. The good guy's kill the bad guys; then, the bad guys kill the good guys; and then, the bad guys kill the bad guys. The propaganda angle in this movie is pretty blatant; with statements like "they're at the Chinese funded hospital" instead of "they're at the hospital". The original script for this movie must have been "enhanced" by CCP hardliners within the Chinese government before they decided to shoot the movie. As for the abundant 10/10's I'm seeing on this site ... I'll assume that they're employees of the production company, CCP hardliners or friends of the actors.
