This is one of my favorite films of the last few years. The film feels even shorter than it is because it's so engrossing. Frank Grillo is very believable and sympathetic as the film's anti-hero. The plot is full of tension and is never predictable. I must admit that I'm a sucker for any movie with a realistic car chase or two, so this was a perfect fit for me. This is the kind of film I was hoping to see when I saw Baby Driver and Drive. I found none of the characters in those films particularly interesting, and the car chases were disappointing. The chases in Baby Driver were unrealistic, and the ones in Drive were too short and too infrequent. Wheelman feels more like a Mad Max: Fury Road set in present day New York. I loved it and highly recommend it!

No not Ryan Gosling nor Mark Dacascos (Kudos if you know what I'm talking about with the latter without googling). Also nothing to do with the game (Wheelman) Vin Diesel did voice many years ago. Having this all out of the way, this movie could also be called "Car(s)". We do stick to cars most of the time and often even inside them.While that may sound dubious or maybe uninteresting, think about the movie "Locke" with Tom Hardy, but with a lot more action attached to it. Does it all make sense? Not really. Will you care? Well I can't answer that. I can tell you that if you don't mind logic issues and very convenient happenings (coincidence you say?), then you will be entertained watching this. Running time is short enough and Grillo carries the movie ... well drives it to the finish line ...

I can't believe the low rating of this movie so I had to write this short review. This is a pure example of how a low budget movie can leave a proper impression with the viewer. Well written character driven story. Slow built suspense and a perfectly paced story. Frank Grillo carries this movie on his own. And this is the directorial debut of Jeremy Rush who also wrote this movie. A serious talent!
I would have given it 10 stars but I noticed a serious editing mistake. You can figure it out yourselves... :) Still worthy of 9 stars.
I am reminded of a Tom Hardy movie 'Locke'. If you enjoyed 'Wheelman', I recommend the latter.
