Marketic It's no definitive masterpiece but it's damn close.
VeteranLight I don't have all the words right now but this film is a work of art.
Spoonatects Am i the only one who thinks........Average?
AnhartLinkin This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.
krocheav It's possible the reason this 'sacred deer' reached the screen is because the producer was the writer and director so, had a hand in paying himself to make it. If it wasn't so narcissistically ugly it may have been laughable but, we are even robbed of that possibility. With this and other over the top movies, the Greeks seem to have embarked on a wave of 'weird' movie making and are unleashing their somewhat demented psychology on an unwilling world. For this pseudo physiological mess, Yorgos Lanthimos has convinced Nicole Kidman to repeat her demeaning role from one of Kubrick's most overrated works: 'Eyes Wide Shut'. She allows herself once more to be 'used' as an onscreen whore (at her stage in life, she might begin to ask if she really needs the money that badly) So much of Lanthimos 's dialog comes across as written by someone who might have sadly been the victim of a paedophile or perhaps could himself be borderline(?) His obsession with body hair, menstruation and masturbation are a little too obvious to be quite healthy - one repugnant situation follows another in this unbelievably sordid assault on the hapless viewer. He and Cinematographer Thimios Bakatakis's compositions strive so hard to look unconventional - they actually begin to look foolishly like copycat Kubrick shots -that in themselves, have now been so overused as to become 'conventional '-- By constantly using wide angle lenses, his subjects are often so far away it appears as if the surroundings are meant to be the focus of the scene (which turns out not to be the case) This sexual/horror mumbo-jumbo will please those who think they are smarter than the average viewer, therefore, able to work out (read into...) all those 'symbolic' red herrings that often resemble the writers own bent reality. If you don't happen to be one of those 'intelligent' few, then for the good of your wellbeing, stay well away.Note: if Australian Foxtel continues to allow Ms Pomeranz to hysterically host these borderline-titles under the banner of 'Masterpieces' they should not be surprised if they might just begin to see an increase in contract cancellations. Also, this movie is certainly more than an MA rating with a simple 'A' (adult themes) Was the classifier so bored they did not take in the nudity, language and violence...or were they asleep? (as many viewers are likely to be)
Serenityinaz12 I like how a bunch of these negative reviews speak for everyone like "this movie disappoints audiences blah blah blah". Shut up and speak for your self. I loved this weird, creepy and disturbing movie. Wonderful change of pace and killer atmosphere
pcrprimer I didn't know much about this movie going into it. I had watched dogtooth many years ago and remembered that it was a very odd film, but not much beyond that. The main draw of this film was the main lead being Colin Farrell, and not the director. However after seen this movie, the fingerprints of the director are unmistakable. The cinematography of the film is impeccable worth the long and wide shots drawing the viewer into each scene. There's no doubt that this movie leaves you feeling uneasy and thinking about what you watched. The dialogue and script delivered by the actors gives an otherworldly feel to the whole movie. With lots of interactions that leave you wondering in which world that would br normal. Despite there being strong performances all around the stand or performance is undoubtedly from the actor that plays Martin. You'll be confused, entertained, and horrified by him at the same time but he truly makes the movie what it is.
kellydawngoad I get that this was based on a Greek tragedy, but it was so unrealistic from beginning to the end that i couldn't take it seriously at all. Don't waste your time.
