Artivels Undescribable Perfection
Glimmerubro It is not deep, but it is fun to watch. It does have a bit more of an edge to it than other similar films.
AshUnow This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
Donald Seymour This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
mandytgreene I absolutely loved this movie! It's fun, creepy, cheesy, and a Halloween classic in my opinion! I will say, for such an independent film, there is a lot of people who have seen and enjoyed this movie! What can you not like?
John Leonard This is simply terrible. If it's a parody, it fails to be funny. If it was intended as(semi-)serious horror, the terrible script and horrible acting ruined any remnant of credibility. So,what is it?I have tried to see any humor in the movie, but the over-obvious 'look- at-me-Ma-being-funny' kind of attitude destroys it. I tried to find any redeeming value in this movie by thinking of it as an over the top horror movie, but even then it simply is boring and spoiled by all the aforementioned reason. It's just a sick story based on what seems like a dysfunctional family with a devil worshiping idiot boy.I'm sorry I wasted my time watching this garbage which is neither one nor the other. I usually try to see some merit in a given movie, but I simply fail to detect anything of value.
Michael O'Keefe Writer/director Jeff Lieberman gives us some horror with more than a fair share of humor. Dougie(Alexander Brickel) is a 9-year-old boy obsessed with his favorite video hero game Satan's Little Helper and is exited about Halloween. His sister Jenna(Katheryn Winnick)is coming home to keep the tradition of 'trick-or-treating' with her little brother. Dougie is not impressed and a bit jealous that Jenna brought her new boyfriend Alex(Stephen Graham)with her. Dougie happens to meet a cool dressed guy and is sure that he is the "real" Satan. Immediately he begs to be his assistant. This little demon wants nothing more than to spook his friends and have Satan take them to hell. Oh yes, and to git rid of Alex. Satan goes about not saying a word, but his actions speak for him. Everyone is unaware that the man behind the mask is actually an escaped serial killer and he runs up a nice body count with ease. For working with a limited budget this film is surprisingly creepy and has decent special effects.
Anthony Pittore III (Shattered_Wake) Dougie (Alexander Brickel) is obsessed with his new video game 'Satan's Little Helper.' He has it with him everywhere: on his hand-held, on his computer, everywhere. On Halloween, Dougie decided to become Satan's Little Helper himself by tagging along with a masked murderer who is taking a vicious toll on the neighbourhood. Dougie tries to get 'Satan' to kill the boyfriend, Alex (Stephen Graham) of his ridiculously hot sister, Jenna (Katheryn Winnick). The insane killer is brought home to Dougie's and he's treated like a member of the family.Satan's Little Helper, since I first saw it a few years back, has been one of my favourite horror-comedies of all time. Probably due to the fact that Dougie reminds me of myself as a young'un, I've always felt a strange draw to it. I love the story, the characters, and the low-budget feel that it constantly maintains. Sure, it feels a bit amateurish even though it's coming from a guy who's been in the business for over thirty years, but oh well. Dougie was surprisingly good and his sister Jenna is unbelievably hot (I'll get to that later). The writing works, as does the music. Though there's not a whole lot of gore & violence, it's done believably when it's shown. There is a great mix of humour & horror, leaning more toward the comedy side of the 'horror-comedy' subgenre. I do have a few problems with it. . . the mom, though it was supposed to be like this, annoyed the bajeesus out of me. I don't know if it's her character or Amanda Plummer in general, but she gave me a headache. I would've liked to see a bit more experimenting with Dougie as the murderer's apprentice, but I'm assuming Liberman didn't want to go too far with him. Also, it does run a bit longer than it should've and, to quicken the pace and be more efficient, a few scenes could've done well to be chopped. And my biggest problem. . . how much of a tease were they with Katheryn Winnick? It was like torture to have her in the 'slutty Renaissance girl' costume for the majority of the film, be occasionally involved in near-sex situations. . . and never reward us for our efforts! AH! But, I'll look past the blue balls she nearly caused and, instead, remember the rest of the film. Overall, it's a great, lighthearted horror-comedy that would make for a fantastic showing on a Halloween evening.Final verdict: 7.5/10.
