Synopsis

Three generations of the rowdy Cutler family live as outlaws in some of Britain's richest countryside – hunting hares, ram-raiding stately homes, and taunting the police. Struggling to retain a way of life fast becoming extinct, Chad Cutler ends up caught between his father's archaic principles and trying to do right by his kids, whilst the full force of the law is finally catching up with him.

FirstWitch A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
Abbigail Bush what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
Arianna Moses Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
Jenni Devyn Worth seeing just to witness how winsome it is.
eddie_baggins Whenever you have the skill-set of Michael Fassbender and Brendan Gleeson at your disposal there's going to be a certain level of expectation attached to your product and while first time director Adam Smith and screenwriter Alastair Siddons story has many possibilities attached to it, this English set family drama that mixes in uneasy crime and comedy undertones is a highly disappointing affair.Trespass Against Us starts out in promising fashion as we're thrust into the caravan lives of the Cutler family led by Gleeson's matriarchal figure Colby, with his right hand man and son coming in the form of Fassbender's Chad, but things within Smith's film start to fall apart as we become aware that the film is finding it unnaturally tough when it comes to balancing the various plot threads and strands that are flowing through the veins of the picture. We're thrown around from random robberies, car chases, family dramas and animal killings without much care for making us in fact care about what's going on and at the end of the day Smith's film that initially seems like something cut from a different cloth ends up being yet another poor criminal trying to be better than his upbringing suggests and also acts out another disappointing experience from Michael Fassbender's recent career lull.A few years ago on the back of breakouts in Hunger and Inglorious Basterds then star making turns in 12 Years a Slave and Shame, Fassbender seemed likely to enter into another stage of his career only to be central to disappointments like Assassin's Creed, Light Between Oceans and The Counselor and while his actual performance as Chad here is one of his best in a few years, it's a shame the talented performer is starting to frequent feature films that are far from matching his undeniable talents as a leading man.Final Say – There's some nice things happening through Trespass Against Us but they're moments that are few and far between when we are emotionally unattached from a majority of the films occurrences and while Fassbender is working hard and Gleeson is as stoic as ever, this small scale family crime drama is a hugely disappointing experience that was disguised as a fresh take on a familiar scenario.1 ½ fire extinguishers out of 5
paultreloar75 Interesting to see how a movie about some travellers has the capacity and ability to unleash some proper prejudice in some reviews. This isn't without it's flaws but that's almost the idea running through the film in the first place. Family ties and families stifling you and free thought and freedom to live as you want are all themes that percolate just below the surface. The acting performances are very solid, even if the accents sometimes stray a bit. The vernacular is caught pretty well and the simple details are pretty much spot on. The camera-work is good and the score does the job. This doesn't try to scrub them up as some unrecognisable good ones underneath it all, it's warts and all but with some depth and texture. In that respect, I have to say that I didn't find it a million miles away from Moonlight, in the sense of people growing into inevitable futures. Different strokes for different blokes of course, but they are both human-led dramas in my opinion. In this one, Fassbender can't escape the cold grip of his family but sometimes, one wonders whether he wants to. Who'd want to live out with the fecking gadjos after all?
subxerogravity Michael Fassbender and Brendan Gleeson team up as a father and son criminal team with Gleeson being the brains, while Fassbender doing all the leg work. Gleeson as Colby is so deep in the game that he knows nothing else and refuses anything else, an attitude he expects from his son Chad, played by Fassbender but Chad has enough of a foot outside the game to know that he desperately does not want his young son Tyson to follow down this bloodline, even if Colby sees nothing wrong with the hand Jesus gave him (Colby is a God loving crook). The film is about Chad being stuck in his outlaw life style. He wants it to be over but he has no options as he can't read or write, which blows my mind that a man in this day and age has no grasp at all of the language he's speaking, but it happens, and he's doing everything he can to make sure his son is educated. One really cool thing I should mention about the film is the fact that it has some really awesome car chases in it. Not the main purpose of the film but Fassbender does play a getaway driver and his getaway driving was great. It's a great performance piece coming from all the actors with Fassbender and Gleeson leading the charge. It really has that going for it as it's very small and really sweet and met to hit a nerve with those who know what it's like to be stuck and want better but just seem incapable of doing it.http://cinemagardens.com
Alan Fassbender is a good actor as is Brendan Gleeson and the story is a good one.It is hard to understand what they say & i am Scottish!! It's all gypo ( gypsie) talk and anyone from anywhere else other than the UK is going to have a hard time with this - subtitles needed :)The story is a well trodden one - where the main character wants to change his life but is enmeshed in the culture he was brought up in and it's taking him down. Some good car chases - even through fields!! Someone said it has no redeeming qualities but ultimately it's not Hollywood and there are no happy endings. A good gritty story with tension and a fair bit of action - food character study - Fassbender does a good job here.
