Reviews

Moustroll Good movie but grossly overrated
TrueHello Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
Nayan Gough A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
Deanna There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
SnoopyStyle A serial rapist killer is roaming the streets of New Orleans disguised as a cop. Police detective Wes Block (Clint Eastwood) investigates the murder of a young woman. Beryl Thibodeaux (Geneviève Bujold) runs the rape center. She tries to get involved in the case but Block rejects her. As more women are killed, she complains to the mayor. Wes' ex-wife is getting remarried and wants their daughters to live with her. He scours the underbelly of society to find the killer. Then he's contacted by someone claiming to be the killer.Clint Eastwood actually did most of the directing although he's not credited. It has his matter-of-fact style. Quite frankly, many of the serial killer scenes are closer to horror movies. It has a disconcerting feel which is very good. The investigation is a little confused and the eventual killer isn't that interesting. I don't think that's a big deal since it's not really a mystery movie. I would have prefer the guy to be a nobody.
Rainey Dawn I love this movie. For me, this is one of Clint Eastwood's best films. I love a good mystery and crime-thrilling movies so Tightrope is right up my alley. I agree with others that Tightrope is definitely in the Film Noir category. It is a very dark, mystery that has enough action and thrills to satisfy any Eastwood fan.Clint Eastwood is amazing as usual in this bizarre crime mystery. Eastwood is good as Wes Block - not just as Dirty Harry. Clint Eastwood proves, once again, that he's more than just a shot-them-up anti-hero - he's a serious and fine actor/director.9/10
FlashCallahan A New Orleans detective is leading an investigation into a killer who is raping and murdering women. His enquiries lead him into the seedy side of town which he is no stranger to, when he is off-duty. All this contrasts with his home life as a single parent with two young girls. Then on the case he meets a counsellor with whom a relationship possibly offering some normality to his darker side.....It's an interesting concept, obviously a huge curiosity piece when released back in the day, because Eastwood was arguably the biggest star on the planet, and this was his Basic Instinct, if you would. It's pretty tame stuff when you watch it now, but one can imagine how many people were shocked by the imagery, and the amount of sex and violence that is on display. For a film with such a dark tone, Eastwood plays such a homely family man, grounded and down to earth, so kudos to his performance for not acting all strange and weird when he delves into his fantasies. He's just as normal as he always is.The red hues obviously indicate the illicit passions in the film, and although the killer is just your perfunctory eighties villain, his motives and actions are pretty macabre. As with all Malpaso movies released in the early eighties, we are treated with a city shot from a helicopter, and a wonderful jazz score. It's an oddity for sure, and Eastwood took a huge gamble. Luckily it paid off, but then he made City Heat, and it went downhill for a couple of years.Would make a great triple bill with Cruising, and 8mm
AaronCapenBanner Clint Eastwood plays New Orleans policeman Wes Block, who is investigating a series of brutal attacks and murders on women. Wes becomes disturbed because some of the evidence describing the criminal reflects his own fetishes and feelings, though of course disgusted by the killings. He then befriends a rape counselor(played by Genevieve Bujold) who tries to understand Block's feelings, as she helps him understand the killer, so he can stop him.Unusual story for Clint doesn't really work, since his character is somewhat unsympathetic, though he is a father of two daughters, some aspects of the story are just sleazy, and the mystery angle is undistinguished and ultimately anti-climatic. A misfired thriller.
