GazerRise Fantastic!
Salubfoto It's an amazing and heartbreaking story.
Lollivan It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
Philippa All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
Aliiqc *there may be subtle SPOILERS ahead* I actually think it was a beautiful, emotional movie. Yes, it did have a heartbreaking and, probably, disappointing ending. And yes, it might of been "cheesy" and "girly", as some of you have said, but still, as a teen, i can say i truly loved this movie, and i can assure you its much better, in my opinion, than other teenager love movies made in the us or in the English language. In addition, i don't think all these negative and pejorative comments really make justice to such wonderful film. Maybe its because I'm Spanish, and hence, as i watched it in its original language (spanish) i liked it and got the hang of the movie and its passion and emotions more or in a better manner than someone who , maybe isn't a first language speaker. I'm in love with H and Babi's love story, and i think that the on-set chemistry between actors Mario Casas and María Valverde just makes their relationship so credible and real... All i can say is i truly love this movie which, just in case you didn't know, was a total hit in Spain at the time, and i love all their actors and its romantic, yet dramatic, plot. PS: i love H's monologues they are just ❤️-A
Inesa Luneckaite I heard a lot of positive reviews about this movie and I decided it was time for me to watch it too. Oh, how I wish I didn't...The movie is bad. It is. The characters were so hard to relate to because all they did is make me angry and annoyed. I was not able to feel empathy and root for those characters. Their decisions were irrational, their emotions didn't make sense, and their moods and feelings kept changing from scene to scene: first they hate each other, then they love each other, then they hate again, then they love again, and so on. Is this a kindergarten?! I mean, sure, such "love" sometimes happens, but in this case it just wasn't reasoned enough. One thing that made me a little happier is that they seemed to get a bit more mature in the ending and left all that typical but over-dramatized romance behind. I still feel mad though. It also appeared to me that the film's claim is that the only way to achieve spiritual happiness is by being a rebel and breaking the rules. How shallow and small-minded, really.
louise_johansson-94 The guy treats the girl like sh't and she still falls for him. Really naive movie, it should have teach girls to never take this horrible treatment from guys and instead aim higher.I don't understand why people still make this kind of movies.what are we really telling girls? to accept this behavior and fight with other girls over guys that treats women like dogs? And what will it teach guys? to act like this to a girl and she will eventually fall for him? and why can't the guy mature by himself for once, why must women act like some babysitter and teach a grown man how to respect others?Just the same old macho bullsh't.
Al Andarin Agreed, this is a film that can withstand repeat viewings. The love story is epic , Barcelona looks beautiful and there is a great soundtrack, but take it from me, someone 50+, this is really a movie about family dynamics. It's also very well scripted. I translate Spanish professionally; the original dialog is solid.Notice that Hugo isn't really "from the wrong side of the tracks." His family doesn't seem to be as affluent as Babi's, but he certainly was raised in an educated, upper-middle-class environment. His circumstances, especially respecting his mother, pushed him over the edge. Of course, he was unable to get a grip on his emotions, at least till the end of the story. And his finally being able to do so marked his first steps into adulthood.Observation: I hope Coca-Cola did its part to defray the film's budget. I can't recall ever seeing such blatant product placement in a non-US production.
