Deanna There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
azathothpwiggins THE X-FILES (FIGHT THE FUTURE) is an excellent bridge between seasons 5 and 6. It ties in perfectly, playing like the big screen middle "alien / shadow government conspiracy" episode weaving the series' THE END and THE BEGINNING together. Watching it today, I found it even better than I'd remembered it in 1998. Mulder and Scully are their familiar selves, thankfully, NOT going Hollywood! The introduction of the ferocious EBE's, along w/ the explanation for some of the more perplexing elements of the show, make this movie a gift from the sci-fi gods for all X-philes. Highly recommended...
ElessarAndurilS After being an x-Files fan for years (not fanatical, but love Sci-Fi and it was the best going on TV at the time) I watched the movie for the first time 20 years after it came out. Now I understand why I lost interest in the show starting in season 6, I missed the episode between season's 5 and 6 which is the movie. While having read and heard this a lot, I always took it with a grain of salt and thought like all oversimplifications there was more to it.Well 20 years later and having watched the movie now in proper sequence with the show on Netflix it truly is just a high budget, big screen episode filling in the story between seasons 5 and 6. Good episode, higher budget effects and filled in some blanks that made me lose interest in the show in season 6 that is making me enjoy the later seasons much more that sums up what the movie is other than it actually shows us the aliens and explains how the cover up fits into the conspiracy and why it is critical that they make progress both from the good guys perspective and the conspirators. Aliens are invading and while being kept secret in a dark and nasty way, still a major problem needing addressed. While I would like to know how a near dead Scully and exhausted Mulder get from the south pole back home at the end of the movie, not knowing how they get rescued is one of the many missing facts that don't make a difference. So now I know, think the movie was good, but it was a high budget episode that filled in some important facts I didn't know since I've been busy having a life. Now that I have grand kids and streaming has brought the opportunity I've now been able to fill in some gaps in an old favorite show and enjoy it a little more the second time around.
LeonLouisRicci Completely Unnecessary Theatrical Treatment of the Popular TV-Series. Chronologically Located between Seasons 5-6.Capturing the Zeitgeist of the Conspiracy Community and the General Population's Fascination with Government Cover-Ups, Alien Visitation, and all things Unexplained and Paranormal. It was the right Show at the right Time.Sharp Writing, Creepy, Gloomy, Doomy, and Diabolically Clever, the "X-Files" is simply one of the Best TV Shows Ever. However, the Real Truth is that this Movie was a Signpost that signaled a Downward Spiral for the much Loved Series. David Duchovny as Agent Fox Mulder and Gillian Anderson as Agent Dana Scully, both were Perfect Personifications of Protagonist Heroes that were doing the Right Thing for the Right Reasons. Both were Smart, Brave, extremely Likable, and not afraid to Tell Truth to Power. The Movie was just more of the Same from the Show. It seemed to be more of an Expectation than an Extravagant Expansion of the Show, and was made more as a Nod to the Fans than a Vehicle for Elaborate Expounding. It just sort of is and nothing more. It can be Viewed with Little Knowledge of the events on the Weekly Series, but it does Help to have a General Knowledge of the 5-Season Nucleus. Fans and Devotees of the Show were Mixed, but generally Agree that it is Worth a Watch. Most were just Glad to see Mulder and Scully, Badges and Flashlights in Hand, on the Big Screen.
FilmBuff1994 The X-Files is a great movie with a well developed storyline with a talented cast.I have never seen a single episode of the television series and decided to watch this movie when I saw that it was on TV,I was afraid that I wouldn't set a lot of it since I haven't watched the series, but it was clearly written so people who don't watch the series could still understand what was going on.The two main actors,Derek Duchovney and Gillian Anderson, are the best part of this movie, they both suit their characters extremely well and you can tell with the on screen chemistry that they were use to working with each other from the series.I think fans of the series will probably still enjoy it very much, but people who haven't seen the X-Files can still definitely watch the movie, and I would recommend as a good sci-fi and mystery.Mulder and Scully get caught up in a worldwide conspiracy that could change the future of mankind.
