Karry Best movie of this year hands down!
Evengyny Thanks for the memories!
Cathardincu Surprisingly incoherent and boring
Marva It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
elbonian00-218-882971 Several of the cast members appear in other movies (Remember the Titans, the Ultimate Gift) and it's good to see them continuing to contribute to the motion picture arts even in a 2nd tier movie. The plot is classic Southern courtroom drama, and appropriately, a little drawn out and deliberative. Several plots intertwine in this film (don't they always?), and so the film's title is really a double meaning: There is a courtroom "trial", and at the same time, the lead actor (Modine) is undergoing trials on the personal and professional level. This film won't be hailed as in the same ilk as Grisham, but it doesn't assert itself to be. Watch it for the personal trial, not the courtroom trial, and you'll catch the intended meaning. Definitely will recommend it to my friends.
LiquidPoetry1921 "The Trial" felt more like a movie-of-the-week than a theater release. Although the acting was relatively strong, it was as good as could be expected due to the incredibly weak script and plot. A very predictable story-line: the main character is framed for a murder he didn't commit, only to be defended by a lawyer with depressive issues. After sitting through almost two hours of it, hoping for the movie to get better, it just didn't ~ and finally!!! the ending. The only word one can use to describe the conclusion is 'lame' ~ the far-fetched villain who actually committed the crime, and the why/how he did it. Almost laughable, especially the attempted frame-up. I'm not giving anything away - if you decide to slog through this movie, you'll see what I mean.Initially watching this movie because the great Matthew Modine was in it, I had much higher expectations of what the film would offer. At this point the my assumption is he only did it for the paycheck. Gave 4/10*, and that's being VERY generous.
bj-86274 If you like movies with morals or subjects that can open the line of communication with your teenage children and older, this is the movie for you. It is a thought provoking movie relating to capital punishment, suicide, death in general, and the grieving process. It illustrates the importance of honesty, good character, hard work, and having faith. The movie showed, that by putting your all into something and not giving up, that you can make a difference. It showed the error of judging a person based on pass misdeeds and how a past mistake can follow you in life. It reminds us that there are always two sides to a story and that we should get all the facts before making a judgment. I think this movie is really good and that the main character, the lawyer, did a great job. It is a movie that I feel should be watched with company so that afterwards you can discuss/debate the movies heavy subject matter. This movie is so much more than just a "who done it" and is one of those movies that you can watch over and over again. After watching this movie, you may not be inclined to talk about it, but I feel you will want to talk about the various topics presented. Great movie to watch in a high school or college classroom, bereavement or church group, or setting for at risk teens.
chomastr I'm giving a review just to enlighten myself of the torture of having watched it. Contrary to the name and use of courthouse terms, the movie has nothing to do with a trial. I am not convinced if there even was a case in the first place. No context whatsoever. There is no weapon,no motive, no fingerprints nothing. There is/was no evidence for the conviction/non-conviction of the accused and yet the jury comes up with a verdict. There are a lot of unanswered questions in the movie and vice versa. Please do something else that would be productive with your time.
