Memorable, crazy movie
Dynamixor
The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
Borserie
it is finally so absorbing because it plays like a lyrical road odyssey that’s also a detective story.

When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.

Funny, cute and sweet, Just like the cartoons growing up. Loved it.

If "The Smurfs" has any faults (and it does), it's that the movie is split between theirs and the human world. Surely there's enough conflict between the little blue cretins and Gargamel that we don't need a whole dimension of human nonsense to prop this up. I think that's the real problem here: nothing works. Not the human actors and certainly not the humor - which is either meme or toilet-based, all of it forced. I've seen my share of cynical CGI kids movie in my time, but even by those standards, this is unwatchable. It sits over there on my shelf because my wife and daughter like it. But I can't get behind them on this. 3/10

The Smurfs is a 3D family comedy film loosely based on The Smurfs comic book series created by the Belgian comics artist Peyo and the 1980s animated TV series. It stars Hank Azaria, Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays and Sofía Vergara, with Jonathan Winters and Katy Perry as the voices of Papa Smurf and Smurfette. It is the first CGI/live-action hybrid film that tells the story of the Smurfs as they get lost in New York, and try to find a way to get back home before Gargamel catches them.Raja Gosnell directed the film.Happy in their hidden village, the Smurfs work and sing, with wizard Gargamel an ever-present but ineffectual threat. That is, until Clumsy Smurf leads the predator and his cat Azrael straight to them, resulting in a ruinous rampage that displaces a group of Smurfs through a mystical portal. New York City is their destination, with Papa Smurf, Grouchy, Brainy, Gutsy, Smurfette and Clumsy strangers in a strange land. With Gargamel on their trail, finding their way home is only possible with the assistance of over-worked marketing executive Patrick and his pregnant wife Grace.Although the nauseating added dimension, clunky CGI and pointless use of live action signal the film's contemporary pedigree, there are more sinister forces at work in the latest effort which is beyond simplistic, with pitiful stereotypes and celebrity stunt casting driving the action. Indeed, the current incarnation of The Smurfs is a shiny but shallow reboot of all that was great about the original TV series back in the 80's.

One may wonder why Hollywood is so bent on destroying the childhood memories of adults who grew up throughout the 70s and 80s. First there were the 'Transformers', 'Garfields' abomination and now comes the destruction of 'The Smurfs'. I doubt this can even be called a movie as it appears to be more of an extended commercial for Sony products. If they were to make a film, they should have just kept it within the smurf world and not 'merge' it with live action America. The 3d animation of the smurfs are quite lively and cute (it's a shame they're wasted here) and their 'world' is also vivacious and colourful (which is another reason why the story should have been contained in this world but then again, what would happen to all the Sony advertisement?). The live action actors aren't given much to do as they are unable to rise above the formula. Special effects are a waste. Despite all the criticism, the film must have done well enough for sequels. It's an expensive ad, uh, I mean movie, but severely lacking in substance.
