Invaderbank The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.
BelSports This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Derry Herrera Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.
Jonah Abbott There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
rafinnerty I think that the movie suffered from lack of distribution and poor packaging.I had seen it in Blockbuster for about a year before I finally decided to rent it. The packaging was just so low budget that it put me off. However, I really enjoyed the story. It's low-key, sure, but it's a good tale and I liked that the ending wasn't Hollywood-style syrup. The acting was good, too.Burt has, of course, been in some poor movies, but so has Michael Caine, Bruce Willis, Sean Connery... ALL actors have and it doesn't mean anything with regard to the next one they make!I liked this movie more than Boogie Nights and would watch it again.
haythalk I thought this movie might continue the temporary resurgence of Burt after Boogie Nights but once again showed his achiles heel...he just makes bad choices! The script needed a lot of work, the number of characters needed to be cut down, that stupid soundtrack needed to have been trimmed drastically and there was no real directing in the movie...is it comedy..is it a drama..is it a thriller?! Burts performance is quite good - he always manages to be OK even in garbage - but his bad plastic surgery does not help here. Overall, this is a mess of a movie. I tend to enjoy Burt Reynolds movies but his recent decisions have not been good. His plastic surgery has ensured he won't get cast for any serious roles and he has now just ended up in cameo roles. It's a shame really, as he is a far better actor than people give him credit for and someone with genuine screen prescence.
Tonci Pivac To me, If its got Burt Reynolds its a good movie, this wasent the best ive ever seen but its still a film that I would recommend you watch. It had great actors like Louren Holly, Benjamin Bratt, Rod Steiger, Ann Magret, Charles Durning, And Burt Reynolds.Watch this film if your just looking for a good Burt Reynolds Movie.6/10
dona000 I saw this on video last night. It has the feel of a made for TV movie, maybe like an old Rockford show. Once you get over the obvious face lift on Burt Reynolds, you begin to like his character Sonny Wexler. Sonny was making movies back in the glory days of Hollywood. He is now a has been. But he has fallen on a great script. He has friends at the studio who want to help him make the movie but they aren't in charge, they are sort of has-beens too. Benjamin Bratt plays Mr. Black,a real S.O.B. who is now in charge. Sonny used to know the guy in charge but he has retired. We follow Sonny as he tries to come up with the money that is required to give to Mr. Black by the deadline of Friday at 5 p.m. I think Burt Reynolds plays Sonny Wexler really well. He is a loveable has been. Benjamin Bratt (the reason I was watching it. I am a Huge Bratt fan)is the jerky, mean, powerful, egotistical creep,"Mr. Black". Ben is handsome in this movie as always but he is so slick and slimy, just what the character should be. His is a supporting role. Most of the other characters are loveable but odd people. Ann Margaret is Sonny's wife. Rod Steiger is a tough guy. Sean Austin is the person who wrote the movie they are trying to get made. At first I thought "Hey, he is a dork. How could he write a great script." But he is very believable as a writer as the movie progresses. Charles Durning is Sonny's old friend, who can't help him. Overall it moves slowly but I would watch it at least once.If you do, pay attention to how well the acting is done. I think they make it look so easy that you could think that they aren't really acting but just having a good time. But good actors make it look easy, don't they?
