Reviews

Matialth Good concept, poorly executed.
Aiden Melton The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.
Fatma Suarez The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
Rosie Searle It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
Jackson Booth-Millard I recognised the title of this film, and I remember seeing the trailer or clips and recognising the two leading actors, it had an average rating, but apparently it had some kind of twist, so I gave it a chance. Basically the Joneses: husband/father Steve (David Duchovny), wife/mother Kate (Demi Moore), teenage daughter Jenn (Amber Heard), and teenage son Mick (Benjamin Hollingsworth), have moved to the upscale suburbs. The neighbourhood is filled with upper middle class families, so the new family fit right in; Kate is the leader of a stealth marketing team, wearing many designer labels, while Steve is a successful businessman. Jenn and Mick meanwhile have become the envy of many school students, hip and trendy with all the cool clothes, fast cars and latest gadgets a young person could wish for, despite the fact that Jenn is a closet nymphomaniac, and Mick finds himself mixing with the wrong girls. The Joneses appear to be the perfect family that have it all, a good looking husband and father with a beautiful wife, beautiful children, a big house and many great gadgets, but in fact they all have a hidden agenda, and they are doing everything possible not to expose it, but the neighbours remain suspicious. By the end of the film, the Joneses confess the truth, and none of the neighbourhood were expecting it, in fact the Joneses are not a real family, they have been deliberately put together by Kate's agency to be good looking and show off their goods, they are essentially helping companies for product placement, so with their covers blown, they move on. Also starring Office Space's Gary Cole as Larry Symonds, Glenne Headly as Summer Symonds, Lauren Hutton as KC and Christine Evangelista as Naomi Madsen. Moore and Duchovny have chemistry together, it should be said that they really are in love despite the "twist", it is certainly something different, it makes a very clear message about our culture dominated by consumerism, most of the laughs come from the odd moments, it is a very average but amusing enough satirical comedy drama. Worth watching!
ICanNeverThinkOfAGoodUsername This film shows society is a different light. Everything that happens in the film is very very believable. I wouldn't say this film is amazing, however it's a film that has clear messages throughout. It's extremely interesting to watch how the events unfold. I don't want to say too much about the film. It's a film where it's not amazing but you won't lose anything by watching it.Spoilers ahead: 1. I didn't get the ending was the teenage boy said he wasn't living a lie... Technically he still was...? 2. This is exactly how us humans are. We simply want more and more things and the film represents that in a good way. The film could have developed the background of the characters more. But, the film worked and it was interesting.
Sarah Everett I think that as a whole this movie is very well done. It's a good story with an interesting base and solid performances from all the actors. This film can be basically taken (but not limited to) two different ways. Either this film is just plain entertainment; a Friday night filler with the family, or this is a message to the consumers of the world. We have to be careful who we believe out there. Everybody is trying to sell something. A person applying for a job is trying to sell their work ethic. Your blind date is trying to sell their personality. This world is full of advertisements vying for your attention and it won't be long before establishments like the Joneses unit exist in the world. There is a line that Steve uses while trying to sell his watch to his golf buddies- "It's all about who leaves with the most toys." If you want to live that way then fine, that's your choice, but just see what that did to the Joneses and all of their neighbors. It's definitely something to think about. Then again, maybe it's just a movie. It all depends on how you want to see it.
Mere Humsafar After watching this movie, I felt that in the genre of movies, we should add one more category--- " humor ".. because "The Joneses" is certainly more than a comedy.. The story idea is original, the pace of the movie is good from beginning to end, the settings, as required by the story, are really suave, Demi Moore is forever elegant in all her outfits..Amber Heard as Jenn Jones and Ben Hollingsworth as Mick Jones are cute .. And, more than all else, David Duchovny could have carried off the entire movie on his smart and slender shoulders.. He is a matured man and a matured actor playing the role of a matured man and of a matured actor ( the latter being the demand of the story )And he has done it in a very matured way, excepting when Steve Jones loses his cool during Summer's tragedy.. A very good drama covering priorities and uncertainties of life, vulnerability of the middle class , primacy of money and supremacy of love..David Duchovny and Demi Moore have not disappointed their fans like me
