adonis98-743-186503 A man living in a futuristic sterile colony begins to question his circumscribed existence when his friend is chosen to go to the Island, the last uncontaminated place on earth. The Island might actually be one of Bay's most underrated projects and even tho it takes inspiration from Total Recall and other science fiction movies it does things on it's own Bayform way with some terrific action sequences (like the scene in the bridge) and 2 terrific performances from Scarlett Johansson and Ewan McGregor and once again Sean Bean as the villain which is a good things as always. The cgi and the effects in general are superb and there's a lot of suspense and a good overall concept and i wish that some people left their vendetta with Michael Bay sometimes and actually realized that not all of his movies are terrible as they might think they are. (A+)
cinemajesty Movie Review: "The Island" (2005)Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen 1994 founded film studio DreamWorks Pictures LLC acquired an original screenplay by writer Caspian Tredwell-Owen, got it polished by Hollywood writers Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci and contracted director Michael Bay to realize a stand-out science-fiction movie, which could have been an instant classic with is skillful combination of themes from "Coma" (1978) directed by Michael Crichton and "Gattaca" (1997) directed by Andrew Niccol. The result releasing in July 2005, missed it target audience, had the power of conviction in terms of engaging young actors, Scarlett Johansson as Jordan and Ewan McGregor as Lincoln, imprisoned on an Island-like institution of utmost organized daily procedure, which hides a mind-blowing secret of an capital-gathering BioTech organization. The cinematography by Mauro Fiore is an absolute bliss to witness. Nevertheless it takes up to 45 minutes to bring director Michael Bay's strong suits into place with an hour full of well-edited on location-action scenes, highlighting the signature highway pursuit chase with metallic-trainwheels-dropping live-action car-crash-shots.Nevertheless some undeniable loopholes, originated in screen writing as on-set direction, which made it into the finished motion picture product narrow splendors of this unless entertaining 125 Million Dollar production; with thoughtless conceptions of a near-by future with paper-map-buying characters as craftsman James McCord, performed with an I-must-feeling by actor Steve Buscemi, helping the on-the-run youngster couple in harshly received realities, where the Rich buy organ insurance policies from a BioTech company to sustain their life-time.Furthermore the logical and continuity missteps mounting up in last third of "The Island" 120 minute editorial by sharing credits editors Paul Rubell and Christian Wagner, who run out of steam by the end of second showdowns between BioTech corporate boss, solidly performed by actor Sean Bean, who was not directorial pushed enough to become a real hostile for the character-arc fulfilling main character of Tom Lincoln in forgiving minor choreographed almost full-frontal fight scene on crashing metal bridges.© 2017 Felix Alexander Dausend (Cinemajesty Entertainments LLC)
cgifford6 This had several of my favorite actors in it so I am not sure why I have only just got around to watching it. Perhaps it may have been as simple as the name did not draw me to it. I did see a lot of parallels with one of my all time favorites - Logans Run however. The subject matter was very rich and the story line was nearly there, it just left me wanting a little more. My feel was that it was an OK movie, just that it could have been great. A remake would be interesting with just a few enhancements to the story and a change of name delivering the goods.
