Intcatinfo A Masterpiece!
Beystiman It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.
TaryBiggBall It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.
emalga I switched it off after 10 minutes as I was already bored. The minute 10 shows the engagement party moment: the dumb British lady can't speak because she keeps on crying, the groom's parents criticise their son, the bride's dad shows up with a young Asian while the mother is sitting on her own with a window look... To me, this scene defined the rest of the movie: another attempt to make the audience laugh with obsolete 90's jokes....wow, enough already. Jason Segel seems to constantly playing the role of a hopeless romantic dude who tries to looks great but constantly gets interrupted by people when it comes to keeping his lady: Russell Brand in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Lily's exes and mood swings in How I met Your Mother...the list goes on. Mind you, I'm aware that he is a very gifted artist and screenplay writer, but I think these talents can be used off camera. On behalf of my generation (born in the 80's)please innovate your humour and plot in your next movie!!
TheMovieSnob247 I'm not quite sure what I'm missing here, but I thought this was an excellent rom-com and one of the best I've seen in a long time; a pleasant surprise. I laughed a lot more than expected (uncontrollably at times) and I thought Jason Segel and Emily Blunt had great chemistry. The story had depth and was above the typical rom-com fare. The characters were realistic and conveyed with some unexpected authenticity at times, leading to a few surprisingly strong moments in the film. Admittedly, it did drag a bit near the end but I still found it wholly entertaining. As far as these kinds of films go, it hit all the right notes for me. An underrated and very enjoyable film, don't miss this one!Enjoyed my review? Keep in touch! Blog: www.themoviesnob.ca Twitter: @the_movie_snob
kevinathome So, Jason Segel plays an 1960's woman, trapped by her love into making frustrating career sacrifices, except as a man in the new millennium. So, it takes a fresh look at an old formula, but then confounds it, by never doing the expected thing, and improves it, with appealing, believable, admirable characters.I think my favourite part was when the heroine's older, arrogant professor boss makes a move on her. For one thing, everybody, including her, frankly and adultly agrees that she had created or permitted that situation. And then when our hero felt obliged to fight the prof, the prof comes back to help when the hero falls. Then when Jason's character still throws a punch, the skinny prof rapidly blocks, counters, then APOLOGIZES because it had just been reflex. Finally the prof agrees that the right thing to do would be to at least run away when Jason chases him. So he does. See, it's unexpected, funny, and so optimistic about how people could act, if they just recognized each other as humans, and that everybody is the hero of their own story. And Segel, as usual, just seems so real to me, like somebody I would know, if you saw them at their most open, their most vulnerable. Amy Blunt, as the heroine, was genuine and appealing. It celebrates love and commitment, without the fanaticism and superstition of so many romance movies. Those movies say you are nobody without the love of a pretty girl and there is one and only one for everyone.
ashi4782 A lot of reviews say that this movie is not worth your time. It totally is. I really love this movie. I think many came into this movie expecting a lot of laughs without thinking. This is not that type of movie. It's not just dumb laughs. There are a lot of metaphors about psychology and relationships. The chemistry between Emily Blunt and Jason Segel is great. I also thought that the jokes worked and I actually was not bothered by the 2 hour runtime. This is a movie I'd definitely recommend. I enjoyed it and it's a movie I'd like to watch again.
