Reviews

Alicia I love this movie so much
Smartorhypo Highly Overrated But Still Good
Chirphymium It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
Rexanne It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
pietroschek The benefit of late reviews is one is usually damn well aware of writing them for oneself. When Germany met the 'Fades' it came in the guise of 'young adult' on our oh so stylishly independent, self-declared cultural channel. While I could summarize it as the most unskilled plagiarism of 'Wraith - The Oblivion' which I had witnessed in my lifetime, I decided to laugh my beep off instead.Narcissism and Junkie-Glory. A seriously disturbed teenager saving the country at minimum, and the world on a regular. Of course while having cheap sex and babbling ignorant bull-dung all the way! It was splendid. One of the British-R-All-Gay-Scum smear-jobs unleashed. But that isn't true.'Life on Mars' was one of the series, which proved that British hard work can easily outmatch the disinterested money-dumping attempted in the US version of it.Of course an extra-bonus was the fact that drug-wrecks are automatically strong-willed occult experts. While not one ever has the will to go through cold-withdrawal, or into a therapy, they all have the will to outmatch the greatest of masters, and protagonist usually boss God around, too.Given that modern lobotomy is usually performed by allowing unwanted loudmouth's to smoke poisoned dope we get something which 'Trainspotting' simply couldn't provide. The damaged and twisted explanations from someone who belongs to the gutter-born and ill-educated. As sign of state's failure concerning the modern youth that is actually social criticism where it is really true.Contextually the Fades was a limited budget production. By that it had to simplify a lot, and take shortcuts, eventually even cuts on the quality. It did succeed in telling a low quality tale to those who never found better originals, and to be honest: Reviewing the crappy failures is often much more fun than writing about a deserving 10 star movie all others could recognize as brilliant, too. ;-)
ashgard001 I loved Merlin - great show, limited FX but great story telling, honest and good acting, good chemistry overall. This not so much. After wrestling myself through the 3 first episodes and fast forwarding the forth I found me left with awe in the bad way; not satisfactory at all this monster; stiff and disconnected acting, no chemistry between the cast or characters, some poorly directed scenes,... It was USA-series worst alike. For example Terra Nova was something with potential, relaunched Knight Rider was and many others but all of them killed of way to soon. This one was a just call to cut if of short since it wasn't going anywhere. Really.I hope next British productions are better.
SnoopyStyle Paul (Iain De Caestecker) sees dead people. He's a normal teen who has frightful visions. Rarely does a new concept about the undead get introduced nowadays. It's a well traveled road, but this one made some new tracks. The dead are called the Fades. Some go up, but some stay. They glow in their chest as they search for ascension points. The glow could shine bright and they rise. Or else their light goes out. Those that lose their light stays. Now something terribly wrong is coming. The ideas brought forth by this is fascinatingly new. Iain De Caestecker is a good outsider teen. Sophie Wu has an alluring look. Lily Loveless gives a brash performance. It is a real disappointment that it only had 6 episodes. Maybe they can remake this.
emily-583 If I'd reviewed Fades after episode 1, I'd have given it a very impressed 7. After episode 3, I'd definitely have upgraded that to an 8. Now, however, I'm reviewing this refreshing, brilliantly suspenseful BBC Three thriller after episode 4 and I'm caught between a 9 and a 10.This series has captivated me since the first trailer ran on BBC One a couple of months ago. It's dark, deep, clever and truly captivating and is a perfect example of the quality we should be expecting from the BBC. This series is just brilliant. The plot is complex, twisting and turning with surprises galore, and the acting is superb with a few faces you've seen before, and some younger actors who have bright futures ahead of them.I wonder how this series will rank once we get further into the series. With the way it's improving, I think we may need to ask IMDb to add a couple of numbers to their ranking system! The only annoyance? Having to wait a week to see what happens in episode 5!
