Odelecol Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
alexniedo Well ,I opened my movie vault today and came across the cable guy on DVD ,Jim Carrey has to be the funniest man in the world ,when life makes me mad Jim's there to make me laugh ....thanks Jim Carrey love you
jacobjohntaylor1 This is an awful movie. It is not funny. It is just cheap laughs. The story line is awful. It is just hype. Any comedy movie could be popular. People are such laughing junks that really does not have to be funny to be popular. It really does not need a good story line either. If you want see something really funny do not bother with this movie.
benjaminweber This is the perfect Jim Carrey film: a comedy, but also a horror film with a more serious message at its heart. Jim Carrey's performance in this is nothing short of awesome. His portrayal of the deranged cable guy who just wants a friend is extremely sinister, while also being entertaining and warm in all the right places. His usual zaniness is there throughout, except subtly tweaked. When combined with the performances of his co-stars, whose characters all behave like normal people, this gives the nail-biting tension that pervades this film. The plot is excellent too, mirroring the balance between comedy and horror in Carrey's performance. It also keeps the audience guessing, never quite going in the direction they expect. There are a couple of subplots as well, which finally connect together in an explosive climax. This is a must-see for any fan of either horror or comedy. An innovative and brilliant film.
FilmBuff1994 The Cable Guy is a great movie with a well developed plot and a stellar comedic cast. It is a ton of fun from beginning to end as we follow an everyday man, Steven, getting stalked and harassed by his cable guy. The film gets more and more ludicrous as it continues, in a good way, and it serves as a fascinating second directing credit for Ben Stiller. I do think that the Cable Guy himself should and could have been a more redeemable character. Carrey established himself in roles such as Dumb & Dumber and The Mask, prior to this, where he played simple minded buffoons. Here, however, his character may be dim witted, but not lovable in any way, I think he could have had more charm. The cast is all around terrific, Matthew Broderick and Jim Carrey shine in the lead roles, there is a great back and forth between them, we can clearly see that they had a lot of fun working together. A fun watch. Not perfect in any way, but very funny, I would certainly recommend The Cable Guy to anyone looking for a good comedy. A lonely cable repair man looking for a friend becomes a burden on a normal guy coping with a recent break up. Best Performance: Jim Carrey
